RickTStiles (14), New York, USA Nov 6, 2009 Sheer bang for you buck! This is, in my opinion, by far the best beer out there that is still less than $1 per bottle at the grocery store. pours semitranslucent black with a thin tan head and even some small lacing. aroma is a bit acidic but it has nice notes of caramel. Mild, malty nose with a medium but flavorful body that is a bit on the dry side with some caramel and and that signature yuengling flavor. finish is suprisingly long for such an inexpensive beer. Overall very enjoyable and simply cannot be beat for the price!
Will remain a house staple for many years to come. puboflyons (589), New Hampshire, USA Oct 18, 2009 From the 12 fl. oz. bottle marked 19215312319. It pours a dark brown with ruby hues and a creamy beige head. The aroma tends to highlight the lager more than the Porter with caramel and hops in the mix. The mouthfeel is aboiut medium. The taste is bitter with a slightly hopped background but little in the way of chocolate or cocoa as expected from a Porter. But it is a mild brew overall and easy to drink. JediMindTricks (240), Hampton, Virginia, USA Oct 18, 2009 Solid Black and Tan.Nice caramel/coffee flavor and color. Not much of an aroma. Has a sourness I liked. williamherbert (461), Syracuse, New York, USA Oct 17, 2009 Looks like Coca-Cola but with some nice lace. Looks more porter than lager. Pours with visible cascading.
Slightly bland aroma. Has a musty bitter lager smell. Does have a quick hit of molasses. Sweet sugary smell in the nose. Sweetens as it warms.
Initial sweet taste, maybe a little too sweet. Has more of a brown ale flavor than a porter/stout. Brown sugary. Could use more bittering; a bit saccharine.
Feels a little dry, but has some milky thickness. A little weak. It’s too sweet for me to drink all night. Could use more balance. Still, it’s a decent brew. bobman006 (38), New Jersey, USA Oct 13, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark brown color with small off-white head. Sweet aroma with grain and roast. Flavors of caramel, corn, and coffee. Finish is watery and sticky. Why this when there is the porter? BiddleBrau (303), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Oct 11, 2009 pours a dark brown, not yet black, slightly transparent. very little head retention, thin head around the edge of the glass. Grainy aroma with a hint of malt, some coffee in the nose. Burnt malt taste, slightly dry and astringent, a hint of sweetness. Roastiness gives it an edge. Thinner palate as if it is watered down. More flavorful than other Yuengling products but still has that adjunct flavor typical of their beers. DeadGirl (192), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Sep 10, 2009 Updated: Oct 18, 2009Pour from the 12oz. bottle into a pint glass: This is pretty good. Initial notes of rich plum and chewy raisins- leaves the palatte wanting more. Dissecting it further will give you porter-like tastes of toffee, brown sugar, raw, unsweetened chocolate, and that bitterness from crunching on dry coffee beans. Drinkability: Yeah it’s up there (for a cheap beer) Rebuy: Ok. #113 on 10092009, DG. Snot19kilo (81), Oakwood, Illinois, USA Sep 3, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is chocolate, raisins and burnt wood. Taste is same with a bit of dark fruit. A bit too watery to bea true porter. It’s a ok beer though would drink it again.
