pours clear and a pale typical porter color with a foamy tan head and rings of lace which cling to the sides of my plastic motel cup. there is a bit of a coppery/metallic note in the nose followed by coffee, lager yeast, caramel and earth. the flavor is the same... combined with a bit of spice, flowers, mild bitterness, yeasty earthiness and a dry grainy finish with coffee-like nuttiness lingering in the aftertaste. it is light to medium bodied , a bit sharp and prickly though terribly easy drinking. it is refreshing but it lacks some depth and character. 5/3/5/3/13/2.9

Appearance: Pitch black with a brown head. Aroma: Caramel, smoke, yeast and malt with some metal/battery notes. Flavour: Light body with some good carbonation, somewhat sour, malt, peat, smoke with a tiny amount of earth. Such a weak body. Not too bad overall.

A nice B & T. Flavor is porter with caramel, roasted notes, and dark fruit. More complex than expected and more substantial feel.

Yuengling Black and Tan pours with a light head. It has a bitter, malty aroma and very thin mouthfeel. The taste is malty and pretty bitter. Compared to some of the more full-bodied ales, Yuengling Black and Tan isn’t the best. However, it’s not the worst either, and it’s got my vote.

A very good black and tan. Not available (nor is any product of this brewery) in Louisiana. Has a snappy taste. Probably would go very well with cheeses. RJT

As a porter, this is whimpy. As a combination of porter and lager it is decent. Dark brown color. Mild roasted malt aroma and flavor. Light body and head.

My ’house beer’ - not the most complex beer, but always enjoyable. Pours nearly black with an off-white head. Beats the hell out of most widely available domestics - fantastic value for the money.

Really not a bad Black and Tan at all. For the country’s oldest brewery and one of the cheapest beers at your store, this one is a winner.
