A dark brew, smooth and mellow, with a slight caramel flavor.

What a good creation the Black and Tan was. The original from the oldest brewery in America.

Pours deep mahogany into a shaker. Tan head with medium retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Caramel aromas. Sweet caramel and sour cardboard upfront turning to dry, smoky chocolate in the medium length finish.

330ml bottle served in tumbler glass. A: Pours a brown clear color forming a thin bubbled tan head. Low retention and only very few spotty lacings left in the glass. S: Sweet in the nose. Notes of caramel malts, roasted malts, toffee and wood. Not bad. T: Slightly sweet upfront. Notes of pale malts, crystal malts, caramel malts and roasted malts. Light notes of chocolate. Interesting notes of wood. Earthy yeasts and grassy hops. Light bitterness M: Light to medium body. Medium carbonation. Aftertaste is a mix of caramel malts, roasted malts, wood and earthy yeasts. O: Medium drinkability. First time Black and Tan, interesting...

Bottle @ PIT. Light aroma. Dark color with reddish tint & thin beige head. Not bad flavor but a little light. Little roast, low bitterness. Light to medium bodied. Overall not bad, but not my first choice.

"this is a pretty good go-to beer if the place you’re at doesn’t have anything you REALLY like. it’s light-medium bodied, a little more robust flavor than expected, with a light, roasted, slightly dry finish. ok."

12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours brown with a beige head. Aroma of caramel and toffee and light chocolate from the malts, some very light bitterness, and some bread/dough. Flavor the same. Average texture. Not the best of the style, but decent considering the price.

354ml bottle as a gift from Virginia, USA:
I was disappointed with this one a little, I was expecting a little bitter more from my first beer from a brewery with such a long history but this one failed to deliver; hopefully if I ever get to try their Dark Brewed Porter or their Premium lager individually they will come out better than this combination of the two did. The beer was too basic for my liking and the porter part seemed to dominate but when the lager did making an appearance it wasn’t welcome and seemed to negatively impact the taste; this one isn’t a beer I’d be eager to try again but I wouldn’t mind get my hands on some of the brewery’s other beers.

Bottle. Black pour with a light khaki head that fades quickly. Slightly roasted malt aroma. Flavor is weak and watery, very thin mouthfeel. Easy to drink though and unoffensive. For what it is, it’s not terrible.

A nice Yuengling alternative, I haven't tried their porter yet but I imagine this is what a porter and regular lager blend would taste like. Very appetizing aroma, strong on roasty coffee and caramel malt notes. Taste is milder, subtly sweet and roasty, burnt caramel malt. A hint of chocolate. Appearance was very appetizing too, a dark ruby black with tan head. A little on the watery side but smooth and finishes clean. Very enjoyable!
