What a good creation the Black and Tan was. The original from the oldest brewery in America.

I used to drink this from bottles for a change of pace when I was transitioning to non crap beer. It?s OK by mass market standard.

Bottle. Dark sugar nose, with light roast malt, rather sweet. Dark translucent brown with ruby highlights. Thin sweet dark roast malt, cola, minimal hopping. Thin-medium body. Decent and sessionable, but not very interesting.

16oz can. Dark brown color with one finger beige head. Caramel, a little malt aroma. Taste is similar, slight coffee. Okay beer.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark brown with a thin tan head with just a little lacing. Aroma is of caramel, sweet malts, lightly roasted malts, coco, and some light coffee. Taste is about the same as the aroma. Has a medium-light body with a semi watery mouthfeel and a mostly sweet, medium-short finish. Overall, a below average, but drinkable porter.

Strong caramel scent, very malty as well. Flavor is somewhat sweet but is an overall good porter. Not my favorite style but this is a good one. Surprised I liked this as much as I did

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark brown with a medium tan head with substantial lacing. Smell of bread, coffee and nuts. Taste of caramel, nuts, and a slight smokey flavor. This is very smooth for a dark brew, and as much as I like their traditional lager I’ve been waiting a while to try this. Definitely going to add this to my typical go to list!

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
The beer pours a clear brown color with red highlights, but the medium khaki-colored head fades quickly. The aroma blends caramel malts, roasted malts, and lager yeast, and the taste is slightly umami, slightly bitter, and a touch sour with a light roasty flavor throughout. The palate fuses a slick texture, average carbonation, and a light body.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours a very dark brown with an impressive, pillowy, khaki colored head. Plum, nut, and seltzer on the nose. Full mouthfeel with adequate carbonation. Flavors approxinate the aromas, except a roasted, nearly smoky quality is also noted. Hard to find much wrong with this beer.
