2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Served from a 12 oz bottle from my sister. The appearance is a medium dark brown with a good amount of bubbles and not much head. The flavors and aromas have a mild toasted malt with the crisp, dry, grainy lager flavors being a bit more pronounced, The mouth is a little too much towards the medium end for my preference. This strikes me as a good intro beer.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Dark cola brown, almost black. Dark cocoa aroma. Light roasted malt, sweet chocolate on the finish, too much carb. Easy to drink, somewhat of a classic.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a dark cola brown with a roasted malt flavor. Taste is roasted, minimal sweetness of caramel, and a particular dirty water flavor. This beer didn’t seem to meld the flavors well. It was decent but would come up short in flavor especially for the style.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Transfer from BA review on 4-15-12 -
Poured from can into pint glass
Appearance – Pours a deep brown nearly black color with a huge billowy tan head. The head dissipates very fast leaving a small amount of lacing and a very thin layer of ever persistent foam.
Smell – Some roasty malt aromas are heaviest. A good dark bread backbone mixed with some lighter sweet caramel aromas.
Taste – The taste starts out very porter like with a roasty-bready-sweet flavor. The sweetness is largely of brown sugar with the breadiness being of brown bread. Towards the middle the brown sugar flavors seem to shift to being more burnt and caramel in nature. At the end a slight bitterness comes to the tongue as some of the sweeter flavors dissipate and allow the more bready flavors to shine through.
Mouthfeel – Just above an average creaminess with a very moderate level of carbonation. The carbonation in just right for the beer as it gives a nice tingle on the tongue, but the mouthfeel, while not bad, could be a little thicker for the dark and bready nature of the beer.
Overall – Yuengling always offers a good bang for the buck. They deliver again with the black and tan. It has some nice roasty and sweet flavors and aromas at a very good price.

This is a very tasty beer for the price. It is a very smooth stout sort of drink. Recommended.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
354ml [sic!] bottle. Darkest brown colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Dark malty aroma, minimally smoky, hints of coffee. Taste is dark malty, minimally smoky, cautious hints of coffee, a touch of artificial sweetener and malt lozenge with sweetness of the kind "headache ahead".

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle. Pours a darkish brown. Malty sweet and similar in taste to a root beer. It’s drinkable but it ain’t great. We now have Yuengling in New England so will be trying a few out though my expectations are low based on what I’ve tasted so far.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pours a dark amber to brown with a thickish, rocky khaki head that leaves some soapy lace. Nose involves lager yeast, light chocolate, and some nuttiness. Lightly sweet, somewhat bitter. Lighter bodied, active carb, fluffy in the mouth, a bit oily, with a twangy lager yeast finish. An ok brew, but ultimately not very exciting.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Poured from a bottle into a glass.Much darker than I thought. Had been drinking right from the bottle so I didn’t realize this. Malty sweet aroma. Ok taste. Not much there. Kind of reminds me of a porter I made. Easy drinking, but not much to it.
