1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
0399 case code (bottles) … Pours beautifully, then trouble! Fizzy corn water. From the bottle, devoid of any flavor; from the can, occasional horrific chemical under/ overtones. Geezus... could that can-based off-flavor be bathroom cleaner?

The best of the Yuengling line. Always cheap in Pittsburgh, but I have drank way too much of it to enjoy it anymore.

A good one at the end of a long day, it goes down good when it's ice cold (the beer) and hot (outside). Nothing special in any shape way or form. Better than the macros......

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
A free bottle at a reception in PA. Blah. Only, it is Pennsylvania blah. Gassy and hollow. At least, not offensive.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
22 oz. brown bomber bottle. No freshness date. Poured out a dark shade of copper, with slight red highlights. Fast fading head that left a ring of bubbles around the rim of the glass. Aromas mostly of malts, with strong bread notes as well. No discernable hop aromas or flavors to it. Flavorful, and downright tasty. Kind of dark for a lager though. A pretty good local beer in my book.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: JUN 16, 2003 Quart Bottle (The store was out of 6-packs). Suprisingly has resisted urge to lighten up their flagship so it looks and taste more like megabrewed crap. Color is certainly amber (again, no p--- yellow A/B color), kicks up a frothy head. Sweet malty taste, almost roasty caramel, and trace of flavoring hops. Surprising yeast taste, may turn off some people. Could the big bottle have been old? Still, an interesting catch. Had the whole quart and 3 Lord Chesterfields and didn't feel a thing. Will try to set this as my baseline for a "not great-not terrible" beer (and I've now sampled from America's two oldest family breweries, Yuengling and Schells. Who's third oldest?).

Bavarian style with a medium head, brownish color and a surprisingly deep aroma. It has a good balance between bitterness and sweetness; can kill thirst and tease the taste buds simultaneously.
But it looks nothing like amber. It's brown!
