2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
The state beer of Pennsylvania. Plain smell, but good medium amber color. Slight, very slight, bitterness noted, but it gives it a much needed kick. Has a good thickness that seperates it from macros. With the price and availability (in PA, that is), it does exactly what it’s supposed to, be an affordable alternative to the big macros.

0.6 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
4/12/01: Original rating 0.8. After struggling through one of these this evening i feel that i am compelled to rerate it. ’Lager’, as most people in Pennsylvania call it, for i personally believe many of them are unaware any other beers exist, is quite possibly the most overrated beer on this site I.M.H.O. In the bottle the beer looks like water with amber food coloring added to it. I gave this a 2 for appearance because i like amber better than pale, piss yellow. When poured there is a small white head that quickly disappears and you are left with a glass of what appears to be amber water. Emanating from the glass and bottle are lovely odors of what appears to be laundry detergent. Tasting the beer reveals (Surprise!!) a lovely flavor of soap, reminding me oftimes in grade school when i cursed at the teacher. Just as annoying as the soap flavor is the persistent metallic flavor forming of the back of my tongue which is really pissing me off. I am left feeling empty, as if i just swallowed water straight out of the lower Schuykill. No recognizable malts, no hops whatsoever. I find this to be just another run of the mill piss poor lager, and dare i say it, i might actually drink a Bud (and i HATE Bud) before i drink another one of these. Yuengling does make some good beers, the Porter and Black and Tan, but this lager can’t compete with the likes of Victory or Stegmaier.

Definately one of my personal favorite. This beer is in a class by itself.

A Pennsylvania legend...Smooth drinking, very affordable lager put out by America’s oldest brewery. Very nice amber color, the crispest tasting lager I’ve ever had. It is best on tap, but also good by bottle.

Crisp but slightly skunky smell. Light amber color, decent head. Slightly malty, caramel flavor, neutral and somewhat dry finish. Not really anything special.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
This is, by far, the finest beer I have ever consumed. Price, flavor, and availability all come together in a nice package.

I don’t care for the yeast in this. Darker than the average lager, and a bit mouthier. Medium head. Dinging this for the screw-off cap, and the label.
