COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An iconic American lager famous for its rich amber color and medium-bodied flavor - with a roasted caramel malt for a subtle sweetness and a combination of cluster and cascade hops, this true original delivers a well-balanced taste with very distinct character.

For an Amercian lager this one is at least drinkable. Not great, but drinkable. A richer color than most and a better malt flavor without the skuniness found in many of USA’s worst lagers.

Taste 7/8 bottle5/8. Looks: Amber to copper little head. Aroma: A little skunk, faint yeast and caramel. Taste: Mild candy sugar, spice and a watery mouthfeel. Very weak finish. Nothing too foul. O.k. for my friends to drink.

UPDATED: MAR 9, 2009 Draft. I must begin with stating that I hate this style of beer. That being said, this was one of the least objectionable that I have tried. I was in PA on a family vacation and tried this on tap at dinner. It has a grainy/bready aroma that is a bit more substantial than the big macros. Flavor is slightly bigger than said macros, a little toasted bread, but nothing to get excited about. Not complete crap however.

Pale golden, smells almost identically and tastes almost identical to Budweiser. Almost no white head. Mettalicy smell, little palate and only lingering taste is astringent. 3 3 4 2

My rating is for the Tampa edition of Lager, bought and consumed in PA. My rating for the true Pottsville swill, bought and consumed in PA, would be much higher. My friends and family recently conducted a blind taste test by the camp fire. All agreed that the Tampa Lager has a rather skunky smell and taste compared to that from PA. And either I’m quite unlucky when shopping for beer, or Yuengling does ship a lot of their Tampa products to PA, despite what was written in a recent Patriot News story (http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/20 One can tell where their Yuengling was brewed by examining the number code on the bottle / can / box... The first two numbers are the year, the next three numbers are the Julian day, and the next number is either a 1, 2, or 3. If it’s a 2, it’s from Tampa. (If you don’t believe me, call the brewery - 570-628-4890.)

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2010 Bought 12 oz. bottle at Longwood gardens. The other choices there were Heineken and Amstel Light. Pours amber with a white foamy head. Looks good actually. Aroma of piney hops, grass and some grain. Watery on the palate, but somewhat tangy. In terms of flavor, well, I did not notice any. Definitely some earthy hops kick in the finish.

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2010 Can. Pours copper color with retreating head. Grainy aroma. Flavors of grain and a bit of caramel with earthy hop bitterness at the back. Adjunct laden. Goes down nicely. Drink it a lot but lets face it, its not the "good stuff".

On tap. Boring. Crisp taste, some malts, faint taste of hops. Better than the big macrobrews but not by much. Makes me glad I live on the west coast and there’s usually something better on tap.

Pours a little darker than your average American lager. A little bit more taste as well. Pretty bland, but drinkable, smooth, unoffensive. Not awful, just not a lot there to take in.

Maybe this deserves a better rating? It is a very tasty lager actually, probably my favorite one. Pours an amber color with lacing along the top of the glass, not much aroma to it. Usually drink it out of the bottle. This is a favorite beer at friend’s places or just a night in. The taste is bland but not bad at all, a bit bitter with a kick.
