Bonanza Brown Ale is brewed in the old school style, as a double decoction. This method results in a very malt forward flavor, perfect for this style of beer. Light in hopping but, full of silky malt smoothness, this beer is one of our most drinkable.

Bottle poured at a tasting. Huge thanks to Bob for introducing me to a tick that I assumed would never come my way. Reddish brown pour. Earthy aroma. Nutty flavor with a long lingering sweetness to it. Loved the bottle. The beer was alright. Very fun to try.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2016 341mL bottle shared by Bob. Iím going to go against the grain. Itís sweet, watery, low hop but nothing offputting. I like the sweetness and I get a strong black rye bread aroma.

Modest beige head and a coca-cola style of bright brown body with minimal head. Aroma of licorice with hints of barley. Taste has more licorice notes and sweet barley, a little weak on the mouth. Not a bad showing, thereís potential here but it could be a lot better.

Extremely weak aroma of malt. Pours a clear dark brown with no head. Sweet malt taste with a watery feel and a mildly sweet finish.

341 ml bottle purchased singly from Sobeys Liquor, served in a plain shaker pint glass. Pours a clear, deep brown, with light carbonation and a moderately tan, fine, smooth head, leaving patches of lace. The nose is heavy on malt, spice, and aromatic wood; the flavor has a very noticeable umami presence, with what seems like salmon, smoky cedar, and light sweet spiced toffee. Mouthfeel and body is chewy and substantial, and the overall impression is like a lighter Imperial Russian stout. Its odd savory profile would probably be too much if served with beef or seafood; perhaps it would be a better compliment to a light pasta or salad.

341 ml bottle. Pours a clear, brown with a reddish hue and a thin, tan head. Nutty aroma with some malt and caramel. Sweet flavour of caramel, nuts and malt with a mildly dry, bitter finish. Medium body with a smooth, watery texture and soft carbonation.

Pours a dark brown with very little head and no lacing. Taste is nuts; roasted malt, molasses and dark chocolate. At the the end is bitter spiciness. Itís ok, but not their best.

Another several samples I was able to partake in while at the brewery. In a sample glass, this showed a nice looking hazy brown color with a slight transparency about it. The smell carried a decent nutty to caramel maltiness about it that carried over into the taste. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly good sessionability about it. I would say that this had a pretty good smooth almost creamy milkiness about it. Overall, this was a pretty good brown ale that I would have again.

This isnít bad but itís weird to me that their amber has so much more malt character than their brown. In this case this may be the point, I guess. Caramel, grain, a bit of molasses and a hint of nut and spice (I believe thatís the recipe verbatim). Not much hop profile but a bit of ambiguous dryness on the finish. Drinkable
