Bottled sample. Coffee nose with hints of toffee. Dark black hue with small and quickly dissipating head. Very malty flavour with coffee and notes of toffee and maybe nuts. Syrups texture with some sweetness in the finish. Superb.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Dark brown pour with a ruby hue and a thick off-white head. Aroma is chocolate, dark fruit and coffee; some dark cherry and plum notes, raisin, roasty cocoa and coffee. Flavour is sweet dark fruit with some roasty bitterness. A little too sweet perhaps, but very flavourful and a really nice malty English ale.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
341ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with a ruby hue and a medium to large, creamy, long lasting, tan head that laces. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel and dried fruit. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, dried fruit and light spices with a mildly bitter, warming alcohol finish. Medium body with a smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Quite porter like. Pretty good.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at the Explorer hotel in Yellowknife. Has a nice soft malt aroma. Appearance is small head with dark velvet-brown body. Flavour is nice heavy barley-coffee with a hint of syrupy sweetness. Has a nice oily mouthfeel which makes it quite heavy on the palette. It’s a pretty good darker ale and paired well with the elk steak I had that evening.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Nice one from Yukon! Not normally a fan of Porters but this one was different enough to be enjoyable. Had a nice roasted malt flavour with a smooth drinkability.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Couleur du caramel très foncer avec un petit col tan très stable. L’arôme du malt et caramel. En bouche c’est presque onctueux avec du malt, pain et caramel, avec une finition très bien équilibré. Très bien fait.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours dark like coca-cola, minor head with hardly any lacing. It’s heavy on the malt with nice toasted cereals and coffee. It’s a warmer but goes down nicely. Another excellent brew from up north.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from my brother in-law. Pours a deep dark as you can go copper, but more on a cola side with copper hues, almost no head or lacing. Nose is sweet caramel malt. Tastes very malty, slight bitterness. Biscuity, caramel, a bit of toffee.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark reddish brown. Tall tall bubbles. Aroma is nuts, chicory, toffee, cereal. Taste comes through really malty, quite sweet. It’s a malt-bomb this. Borders on cloying territory, particularly as it warms. Some balancing bitterness, but not enough.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From my haul down from Whitehorse earlier this month.
This one was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a black color with a slim glazing of an off white foamy and bubbly head that dissipated rather quickly. Light speckled lacing ran all around my glass.
The smell was a bit roasty, a little bit of rich caramel coated nuts and a light running bitter coffee all combine to enliven my nose, definitely English by nature.
The taste was roasty and sweet through the nuts and caramel backed up by the bitter coffee to balance. Light chocolate came in as well.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body as I found myself sipping this. The carbonation was there but nothing overbearing. A nice bitter invasiveness rolls over my tongue.
Overall, I really liked this beer and am glad to have another one going into winter.
