Ungstrup (14760), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 4, 2006 A black beer with a brown shine when held against a light soiurce, underneath a nice brown head. The aroma is strong with notes of cappuchino, but notes of black coffee and vanilla mixes in. The flavor is primarily of black coffee and cappuchino, with a light roasted note, over a thin body. Somewhat boring - had expected more. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 3, 2006 (Bottle 100 cl) Completely black and opaque with a creamy, beige head leaving some laces. The aroma is of pure ash. Rather soft mouthfeel. Medium body with lightly sweet malt and very burned notes - this is very ashy, a feature I don’t really appreciate in my beer. Discreet, bitter finish. Thanks to presario for this. 020606 joergen (8430), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 4, 2006 Bottle.

Oakes (8079), gone rambling, Vietnam May 17, 2004 Very dark brown colour. Quite coffeeish aroma, with slight maltiness. Very coffeeish flavour. Walks the line between balanced and unbalanced, but ultimately retains its civility despite fairly heavy hand on the espresso machine. Despite this, it’s still not something I’d recommend to non-coffee fans. argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Aug 10, 2007 (1L, thanks kmweaver) Brown head atop black body. Aroma is medium sweet, cocoa, coffee. Taste is medium sweet, coffee/roast, light chocolate. Medium body, light acidity. Emil (6075), Copenhagen, Denmark Jun 5, 2006 Bottle. Black colour with a beige head. Roasted, coffee, vanilla aroma and taste, dry. Medium body with a coffee finish. Rastacouere (5552), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jul 30, 2004 Black. Thin off-white head swiftly becomes a ring. Coffeeish aroma is obvious, espresso reminiscent, chocolatey, roasty. Pretty appealing, but not too complex. Slight tart touch. Dry palate with loads of coffee and chocolate, but quite uni-dimensional. Light bitter finish. Lively carbonation, thin-medium body.
