Cornfield (5482) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - SEP 23, 2007
From the bottles this pours a bright golden body (holding it up top the light might account for the brightness) with some lazy bubbling and a foamy white head. It has an aroma of fresh bread with a light (not as in bright) floral/grassy body. It’s got a well rounded, malty body, tasting bready and slightly grainy. The light floral hopping in the flavor doesn’t seen serious enough for a Pilsener. Dry finish. A sessionable lager.

Golden color with a taller light cream colored, slowly diminishing head. Light floral hops mix with flour, dough, resin and a touch of white grapes. A toasted malt start with a mild herbal and dry floral hops infusion. Quite dry in the finish and linger with only a light sweet malt paste residue. reminds me of a dortmunder more than a pils of any kind.

3fourths (8055) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - SEP 11, 2007
UPDATED: DEC 6, 2011 Bottle. Clear solid golden yellow with a firm, frothy white head, about 1/2 inch thick. Nose of creamed grains, fluffy yeast, light corn, and a snappy, sharp resinous corn oil scent. Palate is smooth and frothy up front, then more firm and sharp in the back. Doughy corn and twangy grains tasted. Finishes extremely clean and elevating, with a light yeastiness and a cloudy, pillowy creamed grain flavor. Finishes better than it begins.

New beer at Bodega Brew Pub. Amber bottle. Good beer. Typical Czech style: fresh, pronounced bitter sweet with lots of graininess. Decent head and lace. NIce yellow gold color. Good body and carbonation. A session beer if you like the style.

FlacoAlto (3810) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - SEP 3, 2007
Pours with a frothy, initially three finger thick, light tan colored head. The beer is a brilliantly clear, rich gold color. Aromatic notes of sweet, butterscotch malt, grassy grain and spicy hops. This has a really inviting aroma to it, I really like the mix of hop and malt notes, though it could perhaps use a touch more hop aromatics.

Fairly dry, with an almost tartness, though not really. Biscuit like malt and a fresh grain character are accented by a hint of butterscotch. The beer is fairly well carbonated which provides an extra tingle on the tongue and a touch more palate cleansing character. Herbal hop notes evoke thoughts of lemon grass, hints of mint, fresh cut hay, and an almost green basil like thing. A touch of bitterness in the finish, as well as a touch of lemon-like tartness. This is on the dry side for a traditional Czech Pilsner, it seems to be lacking that malt fullness and even the diacetyl is a touch on the lower end. Still this is a decent beer, one which I would happily consume a few pints of. Purchased: Bevmo, Pasadena CA

Pour is a very bright yellow. Aroma is almost nothing. Flavor does have a few good points. Some malts and a nice crisp hop show up but not much else. Nice to drink on a warm summer day but nothing to be looking for.

31-Aug-07 (500-ml bottle: Purchased 30-Aug-07 for $2.99 at BevMo in La Jolla, CA) With a crystal clear, golden body, a fluffy, white head and a steady supply of carbonation bubbles rising through the beer, this is quite attractive in a tall pilsener glass. The bubbles are a touch too big, though, and there’s only sporadic lacing. The signature aroma of spicy, grassy hops jumps out of the glass, and a mildly sweet, slightly bready malt remains in the background. Balanced attack of gently bitter, spicy hops and mildly sweet, bready malts, but there’s a slight honey sweetness that detracts from an otherwise dry mouthfeel. Also, the flavor is oddly caramely, only a little, but it’s most noticeable in the finish. A hint of smokiness in the finish as well, but overall, the beer falls a bit short of being dry, crisp and clean on the palate, so it’s not as refreshing to drink. Medium bodied with medium carbonation that’s soft on the palate. While it doesn’t challenge the top-tier Czech pilseners in overall excellence, this is a decent beer and a pleasant addition to the growing variety of Czech pilseners available in SoCal.

500ml bottle from La Bodega, Riverside. Bready crisp aroma. A little earth and grass. Pours light gold with visible bubbles and a frothy head. Flavor is lightly sweet malt, earth, and a crisp clean bitterness. Pretty basic, but still very nice.

Bottle (330ml). Shared with MrManning - bottle thanks to Milos. Clear refractive gold with a frothy lasting white head. Initial aroma of cooked vegetables, settles down to lightly funky herbal hops and wheaty grain, slightly sweet. Same taste, average body, a little something off in the aftertaste, sweeter than I like - ehh.

In the 0.5L bottle from Beertopia. This simply calls itself a "bright lager beer" on the label, but the label is blue and white with a blue neck band. I’m guessing that this is the same thing in a new export package distributed by Merchant duVin. The beer was slightly skunked and this was about all that I could pick out of the aroma. Standard rich golden yellow with a medium fluffy white head that subsides to a sheen covering. Has a solid saaz hopped pilsner flavor that leaves your mouth dry and tart. Skunky flavor hangs in there as well. I drank this after mowing the yard and it still didn’t seem to float my boat. Even at $3.19 a bottle, I think I’ll pass.
