Bottle -- a gift. The nose is strongly savory -- smells like good beef stock or soy sauce, with overtones of pepper. Pours a nice red-brown with a faint head. The taste is strongly roasted, with herbal and spicy elements; there is no sweetness or softness anywhere. Crisp, angular carbonation. Very good.

Bottle. Dark brown with some ghostly red highlights. Thin roasted malt and bread aroma. Nice roasted brown malt flavour. Fluffy chocolate marshmallow flavour and body.

Pour is a dark brown with a huge tan head. Aroma is a little earthy with some molasses and caramel. Flavor is a very strong molasses malt with some brown sugar. This is a very tasty dunkel.

Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted grain/nuts, caramel, husks), trace hops (herbs), with a light note of paper. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter, slightly husky. Medium body, velvety/watery texture, lively carbonation. Better appearance than expected...voluminous, lasting head. Aroma is kind of plain and dull, but perhaps it’s not very fresh (they were new to the store that carried it, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t sitting in the importer’s and distributor’s warehouses for a long time). Just ok.
