3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sample at the Vinarna Hrozen RBESG tasting from a bottle supplied by.. asheft I think (thanks!)
Very dark brown colour. Lovely nose. A pungent aroma of roast malt, caramel and raisins. A very sweet caramel tastes with notes of something I can’t decypher from my notebook. Go me. Overall, thought that it was a very good beer and certainly the highlight of the night until then. Bringing these to the tasting was a great idea.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Wow....Bottle aquired at the beer store in Mala Strana Prague. This was a Dunkel? Had this while playing cards with my cousin back at the Hotel room. for me this was one of, if not the fullest bodied brews from the Czech Republic I had ever had. I was not struck by the forcefullness of ripe fruits as others seem to have been, it was there but I thought overshadowed by the bold volume of Saaz se along with the strikingly chewy mouthfeel of caramel and toffee. It was nearly too big for me at the time sice I had been traveling that day. Yeastiness in the nose along with hopped malt.

UPDATED: AUG 1, 2008 Needed this to restore my faith in Czech brewing after the last (partial)drainpour. Briny catbiscuit aroma lurking with toffee once it’s warmed. Subtly smoky malt, cigar, insinuating chocolate. Bovril and Bourbon biscuits pointing towards the Baltic. Can’t pick out the hops, but they’re in there for bitterness. Solid silky brew. Wished I had a bigger bottle.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
bottle, bought in a supermarket in Louny. Clear dark brwon colour with an amber touch, large beige head. Full-bodied and very malty with hints of roasted malt, toffee and caramel. Rounded by Saaz hops which results in a bitter-sweet character and a dry finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Lahev (333ml, diky Quack-Ducku!): Clear, deep amber coloured, quite firm yellowish to off-white foam, dense dark-malty and roasted-malty nose with a touch of dark berries and a tinge of molasses, backed by some delicate (ŽATEC = SAAZ !) hops; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied, soft MF; toasted malt and molasses in the sweet-bitter finish. well crafted czech Dunkel, reminds You a bit of a thinnish german Doppelbock........

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(33cl bottle with thanks to Quack-Duck) Clear, chestnut-brown colour with a mid-sized foamy head. Sweet, toast-malty nose with toffee, slightly molassy and almost Bock-like with shy notes of milk chocolate. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Robust dark and toast-malty, earthy taste with caramel/toffee; moderately sweet, toasty malt-accented finish with a discreet, slightly floral hoppy touch. Has something of a diluted Bock.
