4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark color. Made a three finger head with low retention.
Nice aroma of toasted malts and dark chocolate.
Flavor of toasted malts with coffee and caramel notes. Earthy/hay hops also emerges through its malt, and gets more and more present as it warms up.
Dry aftertaste, a bit oily and buttery.
Medium body and low carbonation.
Good beer, faithful to style and very pleasant to drink. A beer not for drinking a single bottle, once it has a good mix between drinkability and flavor.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep copper with small amount of tan head that quickly disappears. A more roasty aroma than most dark lagers. Coffee, caramel, dark chocolate, and something that reminds me of the yoohoo chocolate drink in a bottle. Nothing like elementary school nostalgia while rating beers on the internet. Very grainy taste. Lots of sweet toasted malts that give way to an earthy hop finish. Drinks very light and smooth with a slight hop bitterness left on the tip of the tongue. A unique dark lager.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Found some notes from 2010. Pours deep clear amber with a thick beige head that leaves heavy lacing. The nose is dark caramelized malt, cereal, and just a touch of nuttiness. The flavor is dark cereal malt, a nice dose of caramel, some sweetness, and the same nutty hint from the nose. The body is light with lively carbonation and a medium bitter finish.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This is a pretty good dark lager. Straight forward, similar to schwarzbiers. There is a simple malty roasted overtone. The head is weak, color a dark brown/clear. Mouthfeel is ok. Not bad, not great. 6.4 BD 9.7 Joek

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This is one of those beers that just hits me the right way. There is nothing truly extraordinary about it - it is quite smooth and drinkable, with notes of caramel and chocolate - but the simplicity strikes me as honest. Not all of Zatec’s Lagers are all that impressive, considering the age of the brewery, but this one has long been a favorite of mine.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Moderate toasty and nutty for the malt, light herbs for the hops, faint earth for the yeast with cola and brown sugar in the background. Head is small, frothy, tan with some slippery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, a little slick with a lively carbonation. Not a very complex Dunkel, but it’s got some nice deep and drinkable qualities to it.
