33 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 14.02.2009
Aroma is slightly sweet and malty with some syrupy notes and hints of herbs. Flavour has bready malt, roasted notes and some chocolate. Slightly harsh finish with coffee and hints of metal. Better than I expected.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This is a pretty good dark lager. Straight forward, similar to schwarzbiers. There is a simple malty roasted overtone. The head is weak, color a dark brown/clear. Mouthfeel is ok. Not bad, not great. 6.4 BD 9.7 Joek

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This is one of those beers that just hits me the right way. There is nothing truly extraordinary about it - it is quite smooth and drinkable, with notes of caramel and chocolate - but the simplicity strikes me as honest. Not all of Zatec’s Lagers are all that impressive, considering the age of the brewery, but this one has long been a favorite of mine.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Moderate toasty and nutty for the malt, light herbs for the hops, faint earth for the yeast with cola and brown sugar in the background. Head is small, frothy, tan with some slippery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, a little slick with a lively carbonation. Not a very complex Dunkel, but it’s got some nice deep and drinkable qualities to it.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
0.5l bottle bought at Bohémia Sörszalon. First of all, I am not sure whether this is really the Zatec Xantho. It is the botle shown on the picture and its label says Dark Lager Beer. No word Xantho on it. (The brewery homepage anyway says Xantho is bottled in 0.33 bottles...)
Anyway, here is my verdict: Neutral aroma, very little foam that vanishes completely very soon. Quite disappointing and quite unbelievable from a Czech lager. Taste is mostly sweet, bit roasted, bit liquorice. Very simple. Moderate carbonation. Looks and tastes like a dead home-brew. Did not like it.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thanks to quack-duck for that one. Bottle looks good but a bit complex. Beer in the glass also black, small head. Starts mild-malty, not as strong as exspected, modest dry. Well balanced, but could show more character. Finish soft-malty, modest bitter. Not bad.
