Zatte Bie from Brouwerij de Bie is a jet black masterpiece called drunken honey bee, slightly spiced, six different malts used from pale to dark one gives smoky, roasted note that is rare in such a big beer. Truly endearing ale.

Pours cola colour with a 1.5 finger soapy tan head that leaves a nice lacing. Aromas of preserved cherries, dark fruits, toffee, with some boozy fumes. The taste is sweet with honey, Dr Pepper, cherries and spices. Definitely quite a unique but not unpleasant taste. High alcohol content is not noticeable. Medium bodied. Certainly a dessert beer and not a bad one at that.

Bottle shared. Pours not exactly the "jet black masterpiece" as stated in the commercial description, more like hazy brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of malt, overripe dark fruit, gravy, herbs and caramel. Flavour is over moderate sweet and light moderate bitter. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation. Pretty good

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Dark reddish brown, almost black at first glance. Spicy herbal malty flavour. Some toffee, not really roasty malts. Pleasant enough, but the darker Belgian ales generally aren’t my preferred style.

Donkerbruin, lichtbruine kraag. Aroma vooral metalig. Smaak donker en overrijp fruit. Vijgen. Rozijnen. Wat geroosterde mout. Niet geweldig.

Gusjebrun tåkete med tynt beige skum. Brunt sukker, karamell og kakao. Smaker søt karamell og sjokolade og noe bitterhet i slutten.

Bottle from Asahiya. Light cherries, prune, dark brown sugar, and some boozy fumes. Light cola brown color. Moderately spicy roast malt initial, with some decided juniper edges and herbal medicine / alc. warmth rises quickly, along light tea, honey, and hard candy / finishes with a jolt of sweetness and then levels out into a light dusting of sugar. Medium body. Tasty, complex stuff that offers itself up slowly and slyly.

Dark liquid, average sized dark head. Rich and very complex aroma: smooth honey, clove, raisins, sugar. Medium body, medium carbonation, very nice sweet finish. Taste is sweet, with hone, yeasts, licorice, smooth caramel and roasted sugar.

Truly a remarkable beer!!!! But then again not!!! Buyin a bottle is just as crazy as buying a bottle of Helleketetel. I have been to that café, more then once, and yes it is that cozy and warm as you might expect! But drinking this beer will give you that experience, even at home! Godly is all I have to say. Underrated, is the second thing I have to say! Balanced with lots of herbs. Complex but very enjoyable. It takes some time to define this beer is all I know. Hoppy, earthy, with a lot of caramels and ofcorse resins, who cares a shit. One of the best beers I have ever drunk, and one of the most surprising ones ever! With bananas and stewed porks and roasted aborigionals. ? If I see the taste palletes for most of the beers here they resemble each other quite well. Define your own taste. I have had the pleasure, after drinking another beers from this brewery, but I so freaking much liked this one!!!! What else do you want to know, that there was hop in it? Malty, but mediocre, but champagne like with herbs? A stuffed animal with golden wings and butterscotch, with breasts from cough drop? C’mon! This beer was a mix from all of that, and even more. For me it easily resembles the Trappist beer format we know, O and I have another surprise for you, you chocolate and peach lovers! :D Or Daffodils, cheese, rotten eggs lovers,, whatever you like! :D Drinking a Westvleteren now, and wishing it was a Zotte Bie!!!! I have found another remarkable beer that is truly commercial. :D Bought it at the Biergrens in Belgium, in Holland... Long story...
