3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled in a cozy bar/resturant in Antwerp with pat. The bars specilaity. Dark burnt orangey red colour with an ample off brwon head. Aroma of soft berries poached in red wine, roasted malts, sugar an some autumn spiced pop-pourii. Caramel and golden malts dominate with layers of dried fruit and nutmeg/cinnamon. Good with my meal choice but nothing special.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2007 I have tasted both versions. I find the version of ’De Proef’ better. It is still an excellent beer

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A Sim rate (bottle from Waagstuk). Liquorice and red grapes in the aroma. Flavour is very complex with raisins, grapes, red wine and more liquorice. Finish is long and satisfying. Dark, ruby red appearance with decent head and lacing. Heftiest beer I have had so far this weekend.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Huge offwhite head; hazy dark red barely translucent body with carbonation. Sweet alcoholic licorice aroma with chocolate notes, slightly unbalanced. Deep sweet bitterish cinnamon and licorice taste, again somewhat off balance. Dry spicy fruity aftertaste. Alcohol heat, and some taste as well. Quite nice, but far from perfect. (0.33l bottle at ’t Waagstuk, Antwerp. Bottle says it’s brewed by Bios Ertvelde, but looks just like the one in the picture.)
