Our single-hopped Wheat IPA. This beer was launched as part of our I.P.April– a month long celebration of hoppy brews–and we decided to brew it with a different hop each year. Until we brewed it with Citra and then, well, we never turned back. Completely satisfyingly awesome in its crispiness and over-all well-rounded hopaliciousness. This beer might just be your Rushmore.

Hazy yellowish color with a white head and streaky lace. Citrus hops come through on the aroma with some spice/wheat/yeast. Flavor follows suit. Slightly fizzy with a mid dry finish. Nice example of a White IPA.

This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a hazy yellow color with a one and a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than about forty seconds. Light stringy lacing glazed the sides of the glass. The smell had a big citrus burst over top of light crisp pine. The taste was moderately sweet with a light bitter citrus rind balancing it out. A crisp sweet to bitter citrus to piney aftertaste leads into a wet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body. The wheat seems barely there but helps to give a decent body to it. Carbonation feels right to be an AIPA. Bitterness is there but a tad tamer than other AIPA’s, might be due to the wheat in it. Overall, for an AIPA, it works. I believe Zero Gravity did what they wanted to. I’d have again.

On draft at the American Flatbread location. Very nice wheat IPA with big hop notes that don’t overpower with big dry bitterness. Light reminder of the wheat malts in the background. Really nice beer.

Very cloudy hazy bright orange. 1 finger white head. Nose is great. Lots of those classic / modern american juicy hops. Mouthfeel is also pretty darn awesome, sticky with a sparkling water element. IBUs are intense, lingering bitterness just intense. Pretty damn juicy but more sweet and dense than my personal favorite DIPAs.

Tap at ZG. Crisp, refreshing, and light hoppiness with wheat finish. Tasty and very drinkable. Can throw down a few of these with ease. Pairs well with their flatbread pizza. Give this a try!

From growler

Aroma: Loads of citrus hops, tangerines

Appearance: Hazy from wheat, orange/golden, white head

Taste: Medium bitterness, inline with IPAs

Palate: Light bodied, but maybe wheat makes it probably more medium, long bitter/citra finish

Overall: I’ve had this several times before. I picked up a growler for sampling prior to doing a homebrew clone challenge. For the last couple of years, I’ve developed a somewhat aversion to Citra hops. A few years ago, I was homebrewing tons of Citra IPAs, but then something changed in my palate and I can pick out Citra hops even when mixed with dozens of other hops. This is the only Citra based beer that I can currently drink without having that weird reaction to the hops. Loads and loads of citra hops. I think the wheat malt pairs well with citra and balances out whatever aversion I have to the taste.

My Bottom Line:
Sandy hop resins and their citrusy accents thrive within this slender Wheat IPA.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam sits atop the clear dark gold.
-Drinkability is quite high.
-Resinous bitterness is not shy at all.
-Wheat tags along nicely with the chosen New World hops’ fruitiness.

On tap at American Flatbread Burlington.

From cask. Pours clear and golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is peachy and light citrusy hoppy. Bitter, fruity, citrusy and crisp hoppy. Lingering fruity and slight peachy. Ends dry and bitter.
