Rastacouere (5255), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Dec 26, 2005 Clear pale gold, tiny white head. Surprisingly very sweet nose does not offer the nuances I expected, trying to satisfy its taster with bare grainy and more so grassy notes. The malts are just as sweet in mouth, in total protuberance. Very limited bitterness comes in to slice through, limiting its existence to herbal aromatics. Loose bodied despite medium carbonation. To my tastes, more yeast efficiency/attenuation would be very benefic, because I could hardly finish a pint as it is. tiggmtl (4169), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Dec 22, 2005 Mildly grainy cereal malt aroma with some vanilla tones. Clear golden body with a low white head that recedes to partial cover. Flavour is fairly sweet up front with some notes of vanilla and a grainy, cereal malt character leading to a fair finishing bitterness. Medium body is somewhat thick and sticky with medium to low carbonation. Sampled on tap at the brewpub with beerbuzzmontreal, MartinT, muzzlehatch, Rastacouere and Yowie. beerbuzzmontreal (2697), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Dec 6, 2005 Pours a clear golden color with a ring of offwhite lace. The aroma is sweet and malty. Flavor of crisp malt with a sweet finish. The palate is light and dry with lively carbonation. Average, not exciting or interesting. MartinT (4307), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Dec 5, 2005 The Lure: Apricots dispersed on biscuity cereal. The sweet fruitiness is pleasant, but something’s lacking here for me to want to dive in as soon as possible.
The Festivities: An immensely nourishing malt body offers sweet fruitiness and delicate herbal hoppiness. Big on cereal, a very fresh but forgettable meal.
Transcendence: Breakfast is always important. muzzlehatch (4425), Burlington, Vermont, USA Dec 5, 2005 Pint at the brewpub in the company of MartinT, tiggmtl, Rastacouere, beerbuzzmontreal and Yowie. Light amber, slightly hazy with a very small but lasting white cap...earthy, very soft aroma, lightly grassy...wonderfully creamy, soft and sweet body, with lots of herbal and grassy character and some odd vanilla...alas too much mineral/metallic bitterness at the end somewhat damages the experience...very, very full and almost heavy for the style. Well-done but not nearly as drinkable as the Helles from here a few months ago.
