Pours a clear copper orange with a well-lacing frothy white head. Authentic grainy sweet malty aroma has a touch of noble hops. First taste has lots of sweet dense caramel malt and some bittering hops toward the sticky, lightly cloying bittersweet finish. Could be more drinkable for a festbier, but still pretty good.

(Rating #324)

Pint at the brewpub. Amber-copper, smoothly hazy with just a bit of lasting creamy topping...lightly smoky, apple cidery nose, very rich...buttery (but not in a diacetyl sort of way), toffee-like initial flavor, smoky-malty body that’s moderately sweet, lightly bitter and toasty to finish. Outstanding example of the style.
