Really hugely flavorful with a robust ashy flavor that adds to the heavy hop bitterness. Makes it come off a bit astringent. That aside the flavors are great with loads of pine and some grapefruit with a backbone of chocolate maltyness.

On tap at American Flat Bread / Zero Gravity: Pours a dark brown / black with a thin tan head. Aroma is mainly roasted malts, with a bit of caramel and pine notes. Great tasting beer, full bodied with aggressive waves of hops nicely balanced by the roasted malts. Slightly sticky on the palate, and the great flavor seems to coat the entire mouth. Really great beer, my favorite Zero Gravity pour that I’ve had.

On tap at Flatbread.
Appearance : Pitch black with small head. Lots of lacing.
Aroma : Piny hops with roasted malts and coffee.
Taste : Resinous hops with piny juicy hops. Slightly earthy as well. Fairly bitter and fairly resinous. Oily finish.
Palate : Soft carbonation.
Overall : Pretty nice black IPA. A bit on the heavy side of my idea of the perfect Black IPA. Nice hops, nice malt profile. Nice juicy hops. Nice oily palate. Nice drink.

On tap at the source... Pours a semi-stingy deeper than cola hue and topped with a creamy khaki head... Decent citrus and roasted maltiness in te aroma.... Citrus green hops mingle nicely with a firm roasted malt and chocolate profile. A little sense of warmth and heat on the backend. Semi-sweet throughout with a light bitterness on the backend. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

On tap at American Flatbread in Burlington, VT. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and very creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a solid lacing throughout. Aroma is big and fresh grapefruit pines with a light roast behind the hops. A nice chocolate malt backing comes out more as this warms and the hops get juicier and more resiny with some florals and a light caramel sweetness as well. Flavor is similar. Piney hops with a nice roast up front before some florals, a nice chocolate, and a bit of a toasted caramel. Citruses grow towards the end and they get juicy and oily alongside a growing roastiness. Dry, resiny, and roasty in the finish with a moderate bitterness that leaves a lengthy aftertaste. Medium, smooth, and a slightly creamy body with a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a solid Black IPA. Lots of juicy, resiny, citrusy pines and roasts balanced well with a solid chocolate and touch of caramel malt backing. Very soft and smooth throughout before this dries nicely. Enjoyable beer.
