0.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
A light yellow beer with no head. The aroma is sour with clear notes of rice. The flavor is of rice and with a light dry hoppy end. And the body is thin.
Earlier Rating: 10/23/2004 Total Score: 1.2

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2011 (Bottle 64 cl) Again this very nice hoppy nose. Golden to the pale side, high carbonation, limited head. And also a rather high chicken fodder-like sweetness. 210105

The description is spot on. It is a pale lager. It is also a pail lager. Meaning that if I had too much of it I would be throwing up into a bucket.

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
White head on a pale yellow body. Label almost entirely in Chinese. Good to quench thirst, otherwise pretty uninteresting. Good for a hot day I guess, but devoid of other ambitions. Passable.

Light gold. Very loose head which sinks quickly. Aroma is first shocking and kerosene-like. Flavour is like some kind of cleaning chemical was not rinsed out of the glass. Develops into a harsh finish. Can still detect actual beer flavour and able to finish the bottle. AND there was a chance to win a trip to China with the bottle!

1.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 3/20
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2005 Bottle. About as light coloured as the 10*. White head. Cereal and hoppy aroma as the 10*, yet less complex in the foul division. Like your typical ’down-the-drain’-lager. Flavour has plastic and grass notes. Not very nice, but at least it’s so thin, that it’s not offensive. Soft palate. All in all slightly better than the 10*, but that says more about the 10* than about this one. This crap is living proof that communism only works in theory (subsequently, Budweiser is living proof that capitalism only works in theory).

Because you can never have too much Chinese lager in your life. I had to pick this up. Actually, I’m already getting nostalgic for the PRC. I’m reading Lost Horizon so I’m daydreaming about northwestern Yunnan and all the rain around here lately has me thinking about my rainy days in Sichuan, from the sunny day in spectacular Songpan to that contemplative afternoon in the rain at Chengdu’s Wenshu Temple to the umbrellaless deluge in Chongqing, a very cool city much like Manhattan on a series of steep hills with ancient houses alongside gleaming towers. I’ve got my cd of Chinese spirituals in the player to add to the atmosphere. Pale gold colour. Sourish, grainy aroma, with a faint hint of grassy hops. Very light body. Watery, grainy, with a hint of tartness late. Other than the fact that 330ml is downright miserly by Chinese standards (bottles in PRC are 640 mls), this is a quintessential Chinese lager experience.

Standard lager with a little bit of acidity.
