Draught @ Van Moll Brewpub during De La Senne Tap Takeover. Red - brown color, average to medium sized beige head. Smell and taste malts, a little sweet, a little bitter, fortunately no herbal or spices bomb. Pretty nice beer. I like it.

Bottle of 33cl, in a Trappist glass. Very nice Belgian Ale, with heavy bitterness and spicy taste, and a nice yeast aroma. Nice golden/brown appearance. Try it, love it !

Brown colour, low carbonation. Hoppy, caramel sweetness with a bitter finish. Interesting Christmas beer, pity I only bought one...

Shared a 33cl bottle. Hazy brown colour with a thin off-white head. Dried fruits, light liquorice and spices in the aroma. Average carbonation and medium body. Taste is complex, more on the bitter side and a dry finish. Overall, a very good brew.

Backlog rating. 33cl bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell, thanks to Josh. It pours a hazy brown color with a large beige head. Aroma is sweet and roasty malts, dried berries and spices. Taste is similarly medium sweet and medium roasty, with notes of biscuit, caramel, bread dough, clove and spices. Finishes lightly ashy and bitter. Medium body with lively carbonation. Overall, ok

Bottle from Belgian Beer Shop, Leuven. Brown colour, beige foam. Medium carbonation. Grassy, notes of caramel and spices. Light roastiness. Some pepper. Medium sweet, harsh bitter finish. Ok beer.

As X-Mas Zinnebir 2012, 33cl bottle, 7,8%. Ashen roast meets the carcass of a Belgian dubbel, on a shy undercover mission to become a sturdy porter. Autumnal leafiness, trademark earthy-dry yeast profile, dormant fruit esters, filter coffee suspended on a watery bed of humus and Flemish hops. Compared to the bottle opened last year this gained nor lost much in its contained expression.

Bottle, 2013 vintage. Brown pour , nice foamy white head. Aroma is spicy, nice fruity aroma, nice hoppiness, well done belgian notes, smells just sweet enough (brown sugar, plums) with light toasty notes. Taste is sweet, nice chewy maltiness, not too spicy, not too yeasty, really malt forward, sweet but not cloying. Palate is med-full bodied with good carbonation. Tasty.

Alengrin (2884) - BELGIUM - NOV 9, 2014
Spiced Christmas ale with creamy, thinnish, off-white head and deep bronze colour, cloudy. Sharpish spiciness in the nose, cloves, grapefruit, black pepper, nutmeg, fondant, candied dates, cold coffee, old ’jenever’. Fruity, spicy taste, dry with medium carbo, rounded nutty and somewhat caramelly maltiness, drying spiciness in the middle but I don’t think it is coriander in this case - though I have no idea what it is then. Long hop and roasted bitter finish, mouth-filling, dry and satisfying.

2008 had 2/09: "another brew from the Christmas Beers of Belgium imported by Shelton Brothers (MA). I was hoping to find a diamond in the rough in here, but so far i’ve had two decent beers and this one...easily the weakest of the three. Not TOO bad, but totally unispiring. Maybe my patience is thin, but I probably won’t even bother finishing this one. Just don’t care for it. It started well...it was the first from the pack to not have heavy sediment around the inner ring. plenty on the bottom, though. Not a little light yeast, mind you, but a thick brown sludge. Poured nice enough though. Big effervescent head, though it disappeared quickly. Smells of light fruit and some spice (fairly typical), but a little astringent. Taste was more of the same, but a touch less pleasing. Either this just isn’t a great brew (although the average before i rated was a hearty 3.7), or Shelton Bros need to cut down the transit/shelf time. Tasted a little stale. Won’t be back. Can’t imagine rating this a 4+..."
