X-Mas Zinnebir has a medium, fizzy, cream-colored head, and a cloudy, brown appearance, with lots of bubbles, tan chunks, and lacing left behind. The aroma is of subdued spice, with a preponderance of brown bread and stereotypical strong ale smell. Taste is the same, with overriding brown bread and a strong bitterness, which grows across the sip. Mouthfeel is pretty heavy, and X-Mas Zinnebir finishes semi-dry, rich, hearty, and good. Overall, I liked its focus on beer flavor, instead of spices. I recommend it. RJT

Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights topped by a resilient thin offwhite head that leaves great lacing. Aroma is composed of caramel, green hops, spices and a little booze. Taste is indeed sweet but there is a good bitterness just like in the original Zinnebir to balance it all out. Light burnt sugar, pepper, caramel. As weird as it may seem I get a nutty finish to it (think peanuts). Carbonation is medium, body too. Mouthfeel is airy. Bitterness might be just a little too much and would prevent me to drink a whole lot of this I think. Good beer.

Bottle from Dranken Pauwels Kortrijk. Very dark brown almost black beer with a thick dense beige head. Good strong malty aroma. Spices in the flavour. Some toasty roasty flavour and some light spice. Dry on the finish. Fine. Some dark choc. I like the malts but not that keen on the spice.

pours hazy dark golden-orange-reddish with a nice creamy orange-ish head, some retention and lacing. sweet and spicy malts, caramelized nuts, caramel, brown sugar, toasted candi. red fruitiness but also overcooked apricots, pepper, underlying phenolic esters, bit of earthy notes. average carbonation, light to medium body, bold earthy-spicy-grassy-herbal and slightly mineral finish. interesting but miles away from original zinnebir..

on tap @ La Capsule, Lille - FR. Color: nice clear amber beer with medium carbonation and medium ivory head. Smell: malt and small hoppy nose with good spices notes. Taste: good balance of malt and hops with some spices notes. Really drinkable. Aftertaste: spices notes.

Bottle @ home with LeninCat picked up at Wilbur’s Fort Follins. 2013 vintage. Lenin is sure digging this. Pours a hazy, fairly cloudy brown appearance with a lasting tan head. Zippy, fruity yeasty, big cherry cola, light caramel, a bit tart aroma. Pretty full bodied. Caramel toffee, dark chocolate, cola, dark berry/cherry fruity, chewy yeasty flavor. Delicious. Lenin easily gives this five ticks out of five ticks. The crazy motherfucker licked the bottle so much that it warmed up and then became awfully aggressive with my glass of the beer.

DruncanVeasey (7315) - NUNEATON, CONF N, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - DEC 17, 2013
330ml bottle. Reflective ruby with a high beige collar going nowhere. Juicy spiced aroma with root beer, dandelion and burdock, juniper, plum and cinder toffee notes. Juniper spice and berries carry over into the flavour with oak and mellow chocolate and a splash of rum-like heat to finish. Plume of distant cigar. Too much booze. Winner.

Pours deep ruby-tinged mahogany into a snifter. Dark caramel and pit fruit aromas. Medium bodied with sweet dark pit fruit, fruitcake and caramel front to back. Lasting mildly bitter earth and distant banana finish.

Draft at Monks. Pours a cloudy amber with thin off-white head and soapy lace. Nose of roasted malt, caramel, dark fruits. Medium body. Somewhat sweet with a very dry finish, moderate bitterness. Similar to a typical Belgian Christmas beer until the finish.

11.2 oz bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.). Looks good; a semi-transparent dark amberish brown with foamy head somewhere between off-white and light beige. Smells of Belgian yeast, malt, and spice (maybe cinnamon?) with a fairly swet backbone. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. Enjoyable.
