2012. Dark amber-brown body with a lasting off white head. Fruity notes, orange in the aroma, dusty, sweet and lovely. Sweet taste with a very tiny touch of tartness, berries, well, more jammy really, sweetish, slightly bitter, mild, subdued, and nice. Though, honesty, too toned down in flavor to be fully effective. Bitter finish. Close to a great beer, but not there.

Bottle. The nose is malt, dark bread and butterscotch. The pour is a deep mahogany brown. The taste is candy sugar and roasted malt. A nice medium palette with mild carbonation. A great spicy belgian well worth trying.

Earthy, smoked andspiced beer. Head should hold some longer. The smell is not bad, but a bit hard to get. This isn’t making me happy.

Bottle from Dranken Geers, split with Leighton and Bruce in J98 LLY on the road to nowhere ’mini tasting’, 23/03/13. Obscured chestnut brown with a medium sized beige head that retains well. Nose is yeast, citrus, orange, woody notes. Taste comprises tangy bitter orange, yeast, sugars, spice, slightly sour notes, woody, tangy grapefruit. Medium bodied with bite, dry and bitter in the finish. Drinkable stuff.

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 9/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 18/20
Swaroga (1273) - Brussels, BELGIUM - MAR 30, 2013
UPDATED: NOV 7, 2013 33cl bottle. Hazy brown with thick, ivory head. NOSE : dough and citrus notes as the first layer, then burned malts with fresh coffee like aromas. Dried dark fruits and toffee. Wet stone, vanilla and spices. SIP : medium to thick body with oily texture. Decent carbonation. The beer is sweet and malty. It gets covered more and more by hoppy citrus and pine aromas. The sweet gets more toffee like and the hops are getting bitter. On the finish malt sweetness is still there in the background with toffee notes. It warms. The burned malts notes become bitter like black chocolate or coffee. Hops add freshness of zest, more like orange peel. Dry black chocolate with orange peel would be best to compare to. Finish reveal some spices and dry, earth residue on the tongue. OVERALL : it has a perfect balance. It’s malty but well hopped and bitter. Dry but with sweet flavors. It hides well the booze but it still warms. How about that. Really good beer.
