On tap at Poechenellekelder. Deep brown in colour with a thick white head. Initial impression malty, with some Belgian yeasty spice in there, but then a surprisingly strong floral hop character comes through. Finish is medium bitter. Hides alcohol strength well, but still a little warming. A very nice hoppy take on a traditional winter ale.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a thin fluffy tan head. Aromas of tangy Belgian yeast, brown sugar, milk chocolate and plum. Flavors are ginger, plum, chocolate, brown sugar and biscuit. Finishes with notes of coffee and a hint of licorice. Otherwise, the finish is dry and bready. Peppery mouthfeel. Slight alcohol warmth. Overall, a very nice brew. I like this one.

Off-white head, lasting. Hazy dark amber. Toffee, alcohol, clove, hops. Strong bitter finish, quite unpleasant (like bitterness from roasted malts + bitterness from hops).

Bottle at home. High creamy and very good looking off-white head. Hazy dark brown orange body. Caramel barley malt straw cocoa aroma. Lovely spicy (sorry mates I am not sure but pepper cinnamon and nutmeg are some of them) and sweet malt caramel orange peel flavor with a fair amount of hops bitterness making this beer far more interesting than expected. Low carbonation. Long bittersweet finish. Well balanced at just the right alcohol level. Thanks mates for this pleasant surprise.

Karamelles, almás, malátás és fűszeres, gyantás illatok kapaszkodnak össze igen félénken, a tél hangulatát sejtelmesen közvetítve. Malátaközpontú alapokon kekszes édességet sző körbe a belga élesztő klasszikus stílusú fátyla, majd erőteljes bélyegét a komlós, fűszeres jegyek társasága nyomja rá az élénk kompozícióra. Utóíze szintén komlótól, fás és gyantás hangulatoktól vezérelt, ilyen irányú hangulatunkban magát a főzetet is könnyedén tekinthetjük ünnepekre kalibráltnak.

Bottle 2014: Nose is caramel, malt, earth, very soft coffee, hint of spice. Taste is pronounced malt, leather, nut leading to an overly pronounced wood note, then finishing with light spices It’s a nice beer, but the big wood flavour in the middle was not quite right for me.

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2014 Clear dark amber colour, white head. Aroma of malts, caramel, straw, light metallic. Sweet malty flavour, light bitter. Rather fizzy. Malty finish, burnt caramel, lingering metallic notes. Absolutely not bad, was expecting a bit more from De La Senne though. Allas, with so many other great brews from these Brussels brewmasters to enjoy..

Pours nice and dark brown with a creamy head that lasts a while. A roasted spice smell with a little bit of banana bread.
