Zipline Brewing Co.’s Country White Ale is a sessionable farmhouse ale—the product of our efforts to design a summer-time Belgian-style ale. We wanted a fresher and more drinkable brew than the typical “Wit” style, so we used a farmhouse yeast strain to achieve a dryer, more drinkable profile. To further separate the Country White from the Wit style (which is commonly brewed with dried orange peels), we used fresh Valencia oranges throughout the brewing process to add a hint of citrus to the beer. And, to maintain a strong local tie, we use 200 lbs of Nebraska organic, rolled white wheat in every batch. After you park the lawnmower, Country White Ale will be waiting for you all summer long…

Bottle poured a clear yellow with a lasting white head. Aromas of wheat, straw, pear, white pepper and light yeast. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, citrus, white pepper and light yeast with a smooth dry lingering peppery citrus finish.

Tall, cloudy yellow pour with a tall, soapy to creamy bright white head that has decent retention. Aroma is perfumey floral and citrus hops, light floury grain and sweet fruity notes. Flavor is bready yeast, floury grain, a little citrus, peppery spicy yeast and light floral hops. Light body, off dry, chalky feel throughout, medium to heavy, sharp carbonation. Decent Witbier, more on the spicy, bready side than most Wits and not as fruity.

Bottle. A- Slight funk, lemon, wheat, soft. A- Clear color, clear liquid, white head. T- Lemon, wheat, mild funk, slightly sweet, slightly tart. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, dry finish. O- More like a mix between a Saison/Wit/Berliner Weisse. Refreshing but a little on the bland side. I honestly couldn’t taste any of the oranges in here but instead got lots of lemon. A good beer but certainly not the best from Zipline.

Shaker from draft at Harvest Moon. Clear pale straw color. Light slick banana esters. Comes off overly industrial with not much else to it. But is a clean light banana wit.

bottle @ John’s Grocery / Iowa City IA --- Cloudy lemon gold color, bubbly 1/4" head, a few strips of lace. Taste is wheat and malt with orange and lemon citrus, light spices; seems a little like a shandy until the finish, with yeast and traditional bittering arriving, at which time it is more like a farmhouse ale. Okay, I guess.

Bottle. Billowing bright white head with a fairly hazy gold body. The nose is citrus tinted with lemons and bread dough. There is also some funk like old leather. Notes of lemon peels and a nice spicy finish of what I assume is clove. The body is bright and lively. This one is interesting and slightly funky. A nicely carbonated body and a dry clean finish. One of the best wits I have tried!

Pours a very pale yellow with a small well retained head and not much in the way of lacing.

The aroma is spicy & orangey. It’s earthy and not very sweet smelling.... unique but familiar to the style for sure.

The flavor is dry & spicy with a nice bit of white pepper and orange. The beer has a nice zippy bitterness and a light doughy character.

The palate is prickly and lively.

Somewhere in the balance between Wit and Saison, a really enjoyable take on either style.

Aroma is spices, wheat and saison-like citrus. The flavor is spices, wheat, light fruit/hint of raspberry, citrus and a long and tart/slightly sour finish.

Lightly hazed apricot colored pour, white head. Man a lot of juicy oranges up front in this one followed by some nice wheat and yeast flavors. Very light on the tongue and really a nice beer. The hints of tartness are balanced well by the yeast and juicy flavors.
