Bottle from Kris Wines. Dark tan colour, big white head. A toffee and apple flavoured weizen, not so much wheaty spice. A little bit thin and watery on the palate. Hmm flavours would be quite nice just not assertive enough.

Bottle. Hazy amber golden, head dissipates rather quickly given the style. Aroma is heavy on citrus, with strong notes of bubblegum, cloves, biscuity malt and pear instead of banana. Malty, fruity, yeasty flavour, light tart, with a faint bitterish finish. Reasonable body, high carbonation. If the finish wasn’t so dry in a tart way, this one would be even better.

July 2010: Brown 50cl bottle, the last of the three beers I’ve reviewed from this brewery. All the bottles were purchased from ’Beers of Europe’. Poured into one of my Franziskaner Weissbier glasses: It didn’t look too good actually, loads of floating sediment racing up and down the glass below a pure white (huge) head. I’ve never seen a Hefeweizen with so much muck hurtling around before. It wouldn’t settle because of the carbonisation of course, some items did rest on the base of the glass eventually, but not much. The body colour was the regular lemon/orange cloudy mix normally associated with Hefeweizen. I always expect vanilla and banana esters when I smell this style of beer, this had an apple and yeast aroma, not unpleasant but not what I wanted. The taste was weak and bland for this type of beer, not impressed. Of the 28 Hefeweizen I’ve had the pleasure reviewing on BA this is the worst. This brewery has let me down on all three beers I’ve had, not sure any German brewery has ever done that before. I’ll not be having a fourth.

Bottle. Amber color, hazy. Banana and a hint of citrus in the somewhat yeasty flavor. Hint of clove. Only moderately interesting beer.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2011 (bottled) A restrained hef , when i drink hefewizen , which is all the time , i want its somewhat simplistic , but often flavoursome character traits to be vibrant. Banana esters are subtle ..clovey spiciness is subtle. Some vanilla on the finish. Pretty dull.

Koelschtrinker (8490) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 4, 2011
Test vom 22.9.2005, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 13,8,8,7,7,8

500 ml bottle in Germany. Thanks to Shrubber85. Pours a darker amber with a nice white full head. Aroma is bananas, fruit, and hefe. Taste is a sharp strop hefe with some fruit and bananas. Palate is mellow and sometimes sweet. Not bad but not great either.

Bottle. Dark copper clouds, creamy off-white head. Christmas-spice aroma. Clove, rye-bread, banana, vanilla. Mellow mouthfeel, chewy enough body. Spices and caramel retronasal, a bit dust.
