Who doesn’t love pheasants? Beautiful birds! Used to roam wild and free in my home town. Glorious plumage, gentle creatures. And who wouldn’t enjoy a beer made from them? Wait...it’s not?...okay, ...that’s cool...anyway... very clear, pale golden/amber appearance, nice, fluffy, snow-white head... Aroma: skunkaroo! Sour lemon. Bad. Foul. Putrid. Ick. Taste: Must I? strong, fullish, fierce, grainy, and very bare thereafter....not much to brag about, Slovakia...blah, bleh, blech...Oooo, ish, ugh...not pleasure-enducing by any stretch. Light bodied, dry finish, grainy all the way, with an unpleasant flavor, that never satisfies... Does anyone like this stuff? Why? And why did I waste $2 on it that could’ve gone to online downloads of Falco’s Greatest Hits? ("One Night In Bangkok makes a Hard man humble"...or is it, hustle? that’s why I need it!) These questions and more will be answered ...never...or, ...will they?

500 mL green bottle available from Armanetti’s. Clear golden lager having a small white diminishing head with spare lacing. Clean light sweet nutty malt aroma. Soft carbonation. Medium bodied that starts dry with light sweet malt flavor and finishes dry with light hop bitterness. Excellent refreshing tasty crisp beer.

Pretty rock solid for a cheap pils style brew. Pour is gold with carbonated white head. Nose of mild hops, malts, and grass. Flavor is not repulsive (the first 2 bottles actually were as they were both skunked but this rating is based on the lone good bottle) its like your standard pils. Overall bearable, when not skunked anywho.

Bottle. Copper color, medium white head. Mild aroma, with some malt, some hops. Flavor is semi-pleasant. A little malty, with good bitterness and carbonation. Crisp in finish. Has that Euro-rubber flavor that all pilsners seem to have. Bitter grass in aftertaste. Not bad for what it is.

A top ranking pilsner. Subtle, but full of flavour. Moderate hops with a grapefruit tone. LArge, rocky head, nice golden colour. Moderately bitter finish. (Tested: draft version in Bratislava)

This is widely considered to be the best lager brewed in Slovakia ... and rightly so ... It’s a bit like a softer copy of the Pilsner Urquell, almost the same but slightly sweeter and therefore less dry ... I remember while living in Hong Kong someone visiting had the kindness to bring me a bottle of this and I truly enjoyed it ...

Beer #18 at the World Beer Festival in Durham, NC. This beer was pretty plain. No aroma to speak of. I’ll be honest, by beer #18 I was in no shape to be rating beers accurately, but it’s important for me to post the few notes I did make about the beers which I tasted beyond this point.

I was under the impression that a Heiny was a Heiny...This, however, proves me wrong. Though nothing to write home about, it’s a pretty solid pils. I expected the usual skunk phenom apon opening with the grassy-soap flavour. nah. Roasted hops with a readily good carbonation. Even somewhat roasted gold colour. About time I got a decent green bottle. I see below the emphasis on grassy flavours..damn, maybe they put the wrong pils in my bottle. booya! Hopefully Ill get to try the dark when im in the country this winter

.5 l green bottle. Well, the breakup of the Soviet bloc was a boon for this beer. You can rate all the Czech pils you want, but this is your choice if you want to "visit" the Slovakia part. Well, starts out with a bit of a skunky, stale hop odor. Pours a nice enough fluffy but ruly white head. Heineken pale in color. Still a decent pils malt taste. Kinda of heady alcohol. Rough stale hops palate that says this has been shipped too far in green bottles.
