2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
(500 ml bottle: $1.79 at BevMo in La Jolla, CA) Fairly generic European pilsner with a sweet bready maltiness early and a gentle hops bitterness coming in for some balance in the finish. A touch of butteriness shows up late in the finish as the beer warms up. But otherwise, there just isn’t much here and the aftertaste is borderline unpleasant. Bready, grainy malts in the nose, with a touch of cardboard that isn’t present in the flavor. Light-medium body with soft carbonation. Pale golden in color with a slight haze, and the off-white head shows fairly typical size, retention and lacing. I wasn’t expecting Pilsner Urquell or anything here, but this beer was still a disappointment.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Fresh aroma with notes of oxidation. Pleasant, pithy flavor, somewhat spicy and malty. Light bitter, dry end, but light shor, too. Some oxidation in it.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
I wanted to like this one mroe thatn I did because it reminded me of a trip I took to Slovakia. I didn’t have a chance to taste it there - but the signs and table cloths were in every restaurant - it is the Bud of Slovakia.
Anyways, pours the typical clear urine of this style. Small bubbly head. Grassy and slightly skunky nose. Straw and some citrus to start, a little bit of hops. Starts fairly fizzy which is good for a pilsner I suppose, but goes flat pretty quickly and begins to betray certain other notes which seem to match the color

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle... Clear, yellow lager with a whispy, white head. Good retention. The nose is mildly lightstruck, but notes of clover honey, lemon peel and straw make their way up and out of the glass. Crisp, medium-bitter flavor. Medium-bodied and fizzy. Finishes clean and refreshing. Thanks to growler for the bottle.

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
The aroma is grainy and a tiny bit skunky with a grass like hops. The appearance is golden and a little dark for a pilsner. The head is small. The flavor is unimpressive. There is grainy malt and a mild unpleasant bitterness. The palate is typical for a pilsner. Dry finish. Maybe this beer is hurt by the long journey or maybe it’s just not so good.

(Bottle 50 cl) Hungarian version credited to "Amstel Sörgyar".
Beautiful, clear fully golden with a creamy, white head. Fat aroma of malt with notes of banana - as in a Hefe. Good, full body with plenty of sweet malt. Limited bitterness. Red label. 120106

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Typical clear golden color of a pils. This bottle did have a slight skunkiness to it, but the hoppy, grassy aroma was present as well. Northing skunky about the flavor though, a nice, crisp, good tasting pilsner. I have a feeling, if I had this one fresh on tap, I would like it even more.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
this is not a super beer, but is a typical beer for the region Czechia and Slovakia. They just make a good pilsner and that is good enough for me.

Who doesn’t love pheasants? Beautiful birds! Used to roam wild and free in my home town. Glorious plumage, gentle creatures. And who wouldn’t enjoy a beer made from them?
Wait...it’s not?...okay, ...that’s cool...anyway...
very clear, pale golden/amber appearance, nice, fluffy, snow-white head...
Aroma: skunkaroo! Sour lemon. Bad. Foul. Putrid. Ick.
Taste: Must I?
strong, fullish, fierce, grainy, and very bare thereafter....not much to brag about, Slovakia...blah, bleh, blech...Oooo, ish, ugh...not pleasure-enducing by any stretch.
Light bodied, dry finish, grainy all the way, with an unpleasant flavor, that never satisfies...
Does anyone like this stuff? Why? And why did I waste $2 on it that could’ve gone to online downloads of Falco’s Greatest Hits? ("One Night In Bangkok makes a Hard man humble"...or is it, hustle? that’s why I need it!)
These questions and more will be answered ...never...or, ...will they?
