kkearn (994), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 23, 2008 Bottle(thanks, 5000!). Poured red-amber with a moderate sized brown head. Really nice aroma with some sweet malt, sour cherry, cherry pits, wild yeast, and some wood. Flavor is tart at first, with sour cherry and wild yeast, which is then joined by sweet malt, white grape and woody flavors. Overall, its a nice sour, but the flavor is not nearly as enticing as the aroma. Holdwine (904), Beertimore, Maryland, USA Apr 19, 2008 Brilliant sour ale. Very sharp yet full of damp dark fruits. Yum. Dark cherry on the nose and mouth. Lasting palate pleaser. Yeasty sourfruit finish. jfenglish (198), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 13, 2008 Peoria BeerFest. This was a pretty crazy beer- sour, sharp aroma and flavor to match, but plenty of sweetness- malts, raisin, and cherry fruits to make it incredibly well-rounded and interesting. Very complex. EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Apr 11, 2008 Clear brown-red pour with a thick white long lasting head. Very sour funky aroma. Some grape and fruit with hints of flowers and berries. Slight sweet and sour start. Change to a bitter yeast and grain finish with some alcohol. Lots of fruity tones and some cream on the finish. Very strange, didn’t really know what to make of it. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA Apr 5, 2008 Corked & caged bottle.Medium sized ivory head that was fizzy and frothy and mostly lasting, fair amount of lacing, carbonation noted, transparent, and an orangish red hue. Nose was sour, tart, cherries, sweet, and sweaty feet.Flavor was sweet, sourt, tart, cherries, funky, and dry.Medium in body.Too sour and funky tasting for my own personal liking.Okay for the style, but not my beer style. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 24, 2008 Pours a cloudy brown-amber with a potent sour aroma! Taste is, of course, sour with slightly stronger hopping than I was expecting, and really great yeastiness. Nice body with good carbonation. This was an unusual sour, a style I’m not normally fond of, so I found the slightly more aggressive hopping rather engaging. Thanks to Oakes for the taste! Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA Mar 19, 2008 750 ml. brown, corked and caged bottle. No freshness date seen. Fake wax cork too. Poured out a rusty reddish brown color, with a sticky tan colored head. Aromas are of sour cherries, some pipe tobacco, Belgian funk, pomegranate juice. Flavors are of pomegranate juice, sour cherries, slight oak barrel. Decent funky flavors, medium mouthfeel. Decent Flanders ale overall. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Mar 15, 2008 Pours a ruddy brown with a healthy cream colored head, dense enough, thinning slowly. The nose is lightly malty, with a strong enough dose of something on the sour side. Lightly fruity with some caramel and miscellaneous fruity dark malt character. Aha, brett. Earthy. The mouthfeel is full enough, not too viscous, not too thin, a bit creamy. Wow, this is much more sour than I had thought given the nose! Particularly, a shot of vinegar. Strong cherry-like vinegar sharpness. A good bit of darker malt, again, caramel, maybe even some chocolate. As it warms, chocolate covered sour cherries comes to mind. A bit creamy. Very fruity. A tart zing. Lingering tartness. I’ve never had a beer sour in quite this way so much. Perhaps the closest I can think of is Bells Cherry stout. An interesting beer worth a try. Perhaps one to age?
