Rich amber colored pour with a small beige head. Smell is lightly sour with cherry, mildish funky feet like aroma, and hints of cheese. Mild tartness and a subtle cheese like flavor in the finish, I thought. Very dry overall and with light sweetness. Went very well with the bleu cheese. Nice beer, and I’m starting to get more interested in the style. Thanks for sharing this one Alan! mjg74 (2001), La Mesa, California, USA

Pours a deep amber/maroon color with plenty of carbonation and an ever growing head. Tart champagne notes. Some spice and fruitiness as well. Not extremely soour. A fair amount of tart fruity flavors. Some dark fruit lying just underneath the surface. A little bit of yeastiness as well. Finish is somewhat sour with a little bitterness as well. mar (1985), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 29, 2008 bottle. Reddish brown in color with a medium off white head and good carbonation. Aroma of sour cherry, light vinegar, moderate funk, light cheese, and some earth and touches of molasses. Taste is moderately sour and funky, some acetic and lactic acid, tart cherry, earthy and lightly phenolicy. Body is a bit fuller than alot of sours and has some caramel/molasses sweetness poking through. Finishes tart
with some lingering cherry, mild acetic acid, and earth. Looks like I enjoyed this one more than most. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 30, 2007 750 mil bottle. Dark copper color with a really nice lasting cramy head. NIce lacing too. Aromas were nice tart and sour. The flavor was not as sour as I had expected. Some dried fruit in there and sweet darkness like molassas mixed with some sour. Pretty good. tronraner (1939), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 10, 2007 750 mL bottle. Pours hazy rust brown with very tight ivory head and very serious lacing. The aroma has an oaky, musty, lactic sourness to it, along with some caramel, molasses, and floral tones. The flavor is fruity, almost tropical at first, but leads quickly to the sourness. It’s a smooth sort of sour, though, and doesn’t pucker. Nice raisin and caramel malts hold it up, even an occasional bit of toast. The finish is whisky and raisins, with a little bit of lemon-like sourness and must. The sour and woody tones linger in a very soft aftertaste which after a long time gets very vinous. This is some tasty stuff. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 9, 2006 Usual Flemish ale color, fairly large head with great lacing. Aroma is some basement, sour cherries, some sugar, some other fruits. Flavor brings out some sour sweetness, but this is nowhere near as sour as something like Rodenbach Grand Cru. The basement or flat element I got here I did not enjoy. While it was something new for me in a sour, I don’t think it belongs. I was missing the usual oakey characteristics. I’d rather have my eyes water and my tongue melt off. I think this is the FIRST sour I’ve underrated.
