Fruity, spicy and markedly tart aroma, notes of cherry, red grape and tree bark to be found along with a certain musty yeast funk and some light phenols. Attractive deep red-orange color in the glass, taking on a rosy tint and featuring a large, foamy ivory head. Flavor profile is primarily composed of the sweetly malty and tart, fruity elements, playing these off one another and seeing an influx of citrus along with suggestions of cinnamon and wood here. Finish is moderately acidic and again features a juicy tartness. Smoothly creamy palate with a medium-full body. Has something to offer fans of the style. Aroma is sour as expected but with light sweetness from under blanket. Drinkable, and mellow. Very gentle for this style . Nice. PorterPounder (3148), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2008 Tallahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft - 750 ml caged corked bottle. Pours a murky dark orangish brown with a tight white head that clings to the edges of the glass. Vinegar-like aroma with some sour cherry accents. Flavor is of course, very sour with some sour cherries, sweet tarts and a hint of vinegar. Good stinging mouthfeel - the way a good sour should be. Pretty solid. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 11, 2005 Earthy red-brown beer; thick yellow-brown head, creamy. Woody sourish-sweet nose, lactic acid, sour cream, fruity as wild berries, rosehips, oranges, prunes. Tart sourish taste, with little sweetness left. Woody, tannines, fruit (sour cherries, unripe brambles, unripe plums), lactic acid, peppery, raw cinnamon bark taste, tobacco, black cardemom peel. Well-bodied, hidden oily slickness, alleviated by the acids. Proef’s attempt at Oud Bruin. More than deft, but in opposition to the multitude of flavours, I miss a bit of depth. I still could do with more of this, obviously. CapFlu (3494), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

Reminded me of La Folie but less dry. Very enjoyable. Finished over a period of several days and even the oxidation was rather pleasant. jerc (3966), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

A pleasant surprise courtesy of Eyedrinkale. Small bubbly off white head. Sweet cherry and fruit with an understated acidity in the aroma. Palate is lighter but quite smooth. Lacks the complexity of the Cuvee de Tomme but is a touch more drinkable, with an acidity and sourness that is still further restrained. <P>
