Brown-black colored beer with thick, compact foam, known for higher fullness, good body and medium intensity of bitterness with delicate character. The characteristic feature is the aroma of roasted malt with bitter-sweet flavor lasting even after drinking.

UPDATED: SEP 21, 2005 Soft and comfy. Easy sweet drinking, with caramel and coffee. Its sweetness is not overwhelming, but rather well balanced. Could use lots of more hops, though.

Bottle 0,5l. as Zubr Schwarze ABV 4,5%. Pours almost black with reddish hue clear body with mocha lacing rocky head. Nose include roasty malts, licorice, little smoke. Palate is thin watery, with medium flat carbonation and thin to medium mouth-feel. Taste is dry and sweet malts and crispy hints of hops. Overall rather thin dunkel, with some interesting roasted malts and bitter dry flavours together.

Tasted on 10.10.15. Pleasant aroma of malt and caramel with hints of roastiness and metal. Medium head disappearing to thin layer. Dark brown clear colour. Malts and caramel in taste. A bit watery and roasted.

Beautifully clear dark mahogany with a nice beige head. Aroma of dark fruit, plums, some roast, a touch of chocolate, and some cherry. Taste has a pronounced coffee flavor accompanied by some chocolate and roast. Full and rich, but only about medium body. Second swallow highlights some more roast and ash notes. The beer is very tasty, but the richness of it leaves you feeling full and not really looking for a second pint. This is basically a session sipping beer. :)

I have reason (that I'm not letting on!) to be in Sumperk in the Jesenicky region of Moravia a few times a year. Sumperk is a good drinking town with a good choice of beer available but this is my drink of choice when there. An inviting chocolate and toffee nose leads to a sweet chocolate and caramel tasting beer, smooth silky and relaxing. The short finish has some dryness to balance the caramel sweetness. Maybe a touch on the sweet side, but a good beer to sit and drink with friends, and it has a bit of character too. (sampled on draught at the Gastro bar, Sumperk)

Aroma: raisin. Very poor head, black colour. Taste: middle sweetness, no bitterness. Flavour is nearly exclusively of caramel. Oily feel, a bit watery for me. Does not taste like a bear, not very drinkable due to sweetness. Bottle, with name ’Zubr Schwarz’.
