2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Keg Holborn Whippet London 27/05/14. A lager gold coloured beer with an off-white head. A bit of puke and a bit of hop. Hints of metal. A lager with flavour but not all of them good and actually there’s a bit of corn.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a very clear, straw pale yellow color, minimal white head. Sweet, grainy aroma, some faint notes of skunkage, no notable hop aroma. Crisp sweet malt character followed by mild hop bitterness. Fairly robust, almost wheaty flavor.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours a clear light yellow with a fairly small dense white head. The smell is light grain, grass and mild fruit. The taste is quite dry which balances with the light malt and fruit flavors. There is a hint of metallic flavor and a very crisp dry ending. Light in body with active carbonation that is a little prickly.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours a clear golden color with a moderate white head on it. Nose is grassy and corn-filled, and reminds me a lot of a more fragrant lager. Taste is light and crisp, and refreshing like a good lager can be. OK, but nothing remarkable overall.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
The beer starts mild and smooth, but less aroma than the Erzquell-Pils from the same brewery. The smoothness is the same, so the harsh and sharp bitter ending, which is a lot smoother here at the less aromatic Kölsch. Easy drinkable, slightly sweet. Not much aroma.
Typical Kölsch, but I don’t like the shark bitter ending. It tastes a bit cheap… --> 8/12/8/8

4.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Slight grainy aroma and corn. Pale to gold color. Sips dry and effervescent. Subtle sweetness from malt and moderate bitterness to balance leaning towards a dry bitter finish. Leaves the tongue slightly numb and wanting a second sip. Very refreshing.

Honestly, I’ve been thinking it isn’t quite fair for us in the States to review the Euro brewed beers. They’ll never arrive in their freshest state and who knows what light, heat, etc. they experience on the trip from brewery to my glass. Anyway...I poured from the bottle in traditional Cologne form into a traditional stange to give it every chance possible to shine. Decent head but not a trace of lace. Aroma fell flat. Color was a decent straw, light golden hue. Taste was average. Sames goes for palate and mouthfeel. No lingering aftertaste. Overall pretty average. I won’t go out of my way for it but I wouldn’t pass if someone offered me one. I suspect that it is much better served locally, enjoying in a German cafe.
