COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Zure Van Tildonk is an original Belgian Sour Ale from Farm-Brewery Hof Ten Dormaal. With this beer, the brewery strived to create a special, spontaneoussly-fermented beer via traditional methods using ambient yeast from the brewery-farm in Tildonk. Each batch of Zure van Tildonk is carefully aged in the cellars of Engelburch Monastery for several months prior to release.

1- sweet tarts candy, fruity esters, plum, some toast in the background 2- dark orange and hazy, quickly dissipating tan head 3- light toasty sweetness, heavy candy sourness that lingers, spicy phenols 4- medium body with a hot aftertaste 5- An ok beer but the sourness is just too candy-ish. The hotness in the aftertaste is distracting.

375 ml into a tumbler. Pours a clear golden amber with rising carb and a finger of white foam. Very gueuze looking. Nose is sour apples, wet grain, and a slightly skunked/musky off putting note. Taste is better. Pretty unique mix of sour apples, caramel malts, and a slightly rotting funk thing. Not bad per se, just different. Haven’t had a sour similar to this one. Like a tame malty gueuze.

375ml bottle, thanks to brew3crew for sharing. Hazy golden orange color. Thin ring of off-white head. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Kind of slick. Bready, kind of floral, mild spicy, good oak. Moderate-plus sweet taste, moderate sour taste. Tasty, interesting sour ale. Pleasant complex oaky aroma, without being too far in any direction.

I heard this interesting brewery suffered a fire last week, so the least I can do, is taste one of their specialty beers... This one uses normal Saccharomyces in combination with wild yeasts "from the farm", so a case of mixed fermentation, or, in the style definitions of this website, a ’sour ale’. Hazy yellow blonde with somewhat greenish hue, almost looking like a witbier, under a thin, off-white, quickly opening head, completely disappearing after a while. Complex aroma with certain lambic characteristics but more conventional fermentation odours as well; impressions of lime, green apple, unripe plums, ’old’ sweat, wine vinegar, hay, old abbey cheese, sour yoghurt, cheese spread, freshly cut sorrel, raw rhubarb, powder sugar, faint vanilla; Michael Jackson’s ’horseblanket’ is represented clearly. Very estery - fruity onset, sour and unripe fruits abounding, green apple, unripe green plums, sour berries, some fresh lime; lactic acidity takes over very soon, paired with a spritzy carbonation and some bready and even faintly honeyish malt sweetness in the background, smooth, leading to a satisfying finish in which sour and sweet are cleverly interwoven with the drying and utterly quenching sourness winning this fascinating game; vanilla-like woody notes also come up, as well as something faintly meaty, some spicy yeast notes and a faint hint of ’old’, mild herbal hoppiness, just there for structure and not disturbing the sweet and sour play, as is custom in sour beers. If the intention was to approach something in the lambic region, mission accomplished. Reminds me a bit of Cuvée De Ranke or even Petrus Aged Pale. Recommendable for those who are into ’sour ales’.

Bottle picked up at Dranken Geers, Oostakker, nr Gent, Belgium, consumed at home Merton Beer Festival mtg, Wednesday 14th January 2015 Golden in colour, great clarity, slim white head. Lovely and tangy, this is tart, fruity and with a really nice zippy freshness to this a good depth of flavour also. Some oak a little light lemon peel, mmhh.... love this its far exceeded my expectations this is bloody lovely its almost like as if its been created as an everday drinking sour/wild beer and I for one could drink one every day quite happily. 375 ml bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.). Looks good; a hazy apricot with white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells funky and mildly tart with a bit of pleasantly stinky cheese as well. Tastes like it smells, along with some oak and what seems like a mild vinous presence. Pleasant on the palate with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. Good beer.
