COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2007 courtesy of Matthias Schärer - blond coloured with light amber hue; the foam is not lasting very long; corny nose with notes of almonds; mediium malt body, slightly oily and a bit harsh; sweetish with a low bitterness and a quite long yeasty, corny finish - a bit heavy, low character and no class at all

Bottle. Slightly skunky malt and bitter grass aroma. Hazy pale yellow color with moderate head. Slightly sweet barley malt and lightly bitter herbal hops flavor - luckily tastes better than it smells.

Pours a clear and yellow beer with a white head. The aroma and flavor is malt, DMS, straw and notes of sulfur. The palate is dry with sweetness. Overall a boring beer.

Bottled 33cl. Appearance: It pours a pale golden beer with a small, decently remaining white head. Some creamy lacework after having taken some sips. No uninviting looks. Aroma: Malt accented nose with corn, apple, marzipan, butter, metal, pear and boiled vegetables showing up. Taste and palate: Unrefined bitterness. Average carbonation. Sweetish. Marzipan being quite present again. Mediocre malt and hop profile. DMS showing up. Crackers sneaking in. Very faintly salty? Dryish inconsiderable finish which is mainly reminiscent of corn and doesn’t make you eager to take another sip. Overall impression: A poor pale lager. Unpleasant and without any interest. The cheesy label doesn’t help.

In the glass, the corn beer reminiscent of a Zwickl. It is deep yellow, light orange, slightly turbid, and the foam is medium-pored and keeps fairly well. It smells hoppy spicy, and of course like corn!! Starts delicately spicy, bitter and beautiful, in fact, corny. The aftertaste gets a little sour. The middle section is really tasty, corny and mild!

Smells like your run-of-the-mill pale lager, fairly clean, fresh. Flavor has, perhaps, the tiniest bit more hops than the average pale lager. All in all, inoffensive and not bad.

Oh6gdx shared this bottle with me the day before my wedding, as a kind of appetizer to the De Dolle Oerbier Reserva we also had. Thanks! Apparently this is some kind of maize-beer, so naturally I was a bit sceptical. Colour was the deep gold of apple juice. Headless. Aroma was malty maize, with a hint of grass and sour milk. Flavor was actually something of a pleasant surprise. Sweetish corny malt together with a fresh hop finish and aftertaste. Certainly not as bad as I’d expected... but not exactly anything I’d recommend either. Light body, moderate carbonation. Actually better than most bulk lagers!
