Named "steambeer" because of its heavy fermentation.

Malt forward with notes of bread, caramel, and grain (think cooked oatmeal or cream of wheat not corn grain like in commercial lagers). Amber with a touch of haze and a large white foam. Balanced but if anything a little sweet malt forward. Smooth in the mouth with a medium body and a creamy finish.

Bottle from Rehills Newcastle. Pours dark golden colour. Lighter than you'd think - a strange mix of flavours but very nice - banana, bread, a bit peppery, a bit citrusy. A very good beer

Dark-amber coloured, medium, slightly tanned head. Malty smell, a bit nutty/melanoidinic and sweetish. Taste is malty at first, then a bit of fruits with a low bitterness. Fizzy but it needs some more body - boring finish.

Light caramel color, average co2, thin white head. Discreet banana aroma. Watery on the tongue, frizzy on the aftertaste. I fell a little bit of banana in the taste. Balanced bitterness. I should drink more ales...

50cl fliptop, from tacky sampler "Bayrische Bierprobe". Striking how all of these mixed brewery labels look cheaply glossy in a very homogenised way - have these been rebottled for the sampler? - Dampfbier, that elusive Bavarian style that survived the bottom-fermenting Reinheitsgebot and gave rise to Anchor steam. Fruity lemonade nose, almost as in a Weizen, including banana, clove and orange that persist in the taste, ingeniously balanced by a piquante hop spiciness and drier mouthfeel. Basically an all-barley hybrid Keller brewed topfermented like a Weizen, only thankfully less filling, although heavy on caramelised banana. Nonetheless: nostalgic bonus preservation points for this paean to the now nearly extinct traditional ale culture in DE.

Bottle. Light golden, hazy, (beer rushes out from the bottle) and mostly diminishing head. Moderate, malty - lightly wheaty and dryish aroma, faint roasted malt and faint fruitiness with light sourness. Body is light toaverage, malty and lightly sweetish flavor, light caramel and faint fruitiness, light sourness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, light caramel and light sourness. Bit thin traditional ale with sourness - comes out of the bottle by itself. Not for me.
