Delightful with caramel and perhaps a bit of banana, long long finish and moderate sweetness, but a kick that surprises (since I didn’t read the label before drinking).
1.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20 ClubGonzo (1732) - Bergen, NORWAY - OCT 1, 2010
UPDATED: OCT 2, 2010 Bottle. Pours an ultra-deep brown body, verging on utter blackness, with a thin, khaki-colored head. Nose is faint aniseed, pepper, licorice and hints of leather. Taste is considerably less pleasant, however; strong metallic canny notes penetrate the palate completely, followed by an astringent bitterness with some licorice and dark chocolate thrown carelessly into the mix. Some boozy tones as well, but not too dominant. Not what I consider to be even NEAR a balanced beer, and it actually has pine-streaked blood in the aftertaste. Jeez. I think Dracula might have appreciated this one, but I sure as hell don’t. Since this is such a highly rated beer, I guess I have to take into account the possibility of this being a bad bottle and all. If I get a chance to re-rate, I promise I will.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Muggus69 (854) - Newcastle, NSW, AUSTRALIA - AUG 24, 2010
330ml bottle.
Pours a sparce, persistent tan foam atop an opaque near-black body.
Somewhat subdued nose that suggests potency with rich liquorice, burnt caramel and prune aromas, with an edge of fortified vinous fruits and spirit.
Thick, syrupy body with nice creamy carbonation. Very lengthy and viscous on the palate, lingering wth a good measure of acrid roast.
Opens up very nicely on the palate with flavour; chocolate sauce, bitter orange hops, dates, plums, prunes, mollasses, nuts, liquorice, sultana. Big sweetness is kept at bay with a firm bitterness and drying alcohol on the finish. Nice and warming.
Yum! Rich, smooth, really tasty. Terrifyingly easy to drink for 9.5%. Seems like the sort of beer you could put away for a few years, but it drinks fantastic right now!

Stellar! This Baltic Porter came in a bit unexptected. It was the awesome Baltic malty rich sweetness but it finishes with a cripy, bittering hop that wows the pallet.
