3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 thorine (34) - Indiana, USA - AUG 3, 2010
Tasted 8/2/10. .5L bottle.
Aroma: sweet, very malty, some caramel.
Appearance: light brown, ample and sudsy head. Beer itself deep brown in color.
Taste: Sweet and malty, certainly, with roasted malt and bitterness at the end. Chocolate and coffee presence. A little too much ETOH comes through.
Palate: Not very cloying. Reasonably clean, actually. Full taste. Warming and very fulling (much like an Aventinus).
Overall: Certainly a filling beer. I would have enjoyed it more at perhaps 1-1.5% less abv, or perhaps better masked abv.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 SledgeJr (3579) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JUL 7, 2010
In the 500 ml bottle. Pours dark black with a thick creamy beige head. Has a mild roasted coffee aroma with hints of licorice. The flavor pronounces strong alcohol but still supports a solid malt caramel thickness with plenty of roastedness and strong licorice. Fairly smooth and delicious.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 juiceisloose (1045) - Windermere, Florida, USA - JUL 3, 2010
Rerating this since my rating seems to have been deleted. Pours a very dark brown color almost black and topped by a small layer of tan colored foam. The foamy head settles quickly leaving a thin film and some sudsy lace behind. The aroma is typical of a baltic porter showing ample amount of caramel malt, figs, raisins, and other dark fruit with a hint of vanilla in there. The flavor follows suit with caramel and chocolate malt forming the base to go with the raisins, dark fruit, and hints of vanilla. There is a hint of roasted bitterness on the back end to balance things out. Medium bodied, smooth on the palate, with moderate carbonation. This is a solid porter.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 2004st4s (33) - USA - JUL 2, 2010
Pours black with a tan head that holds up well. Slightly amber around the edges when held up to the light. Malty aroma. Dark roasty flavor, bittered nicely. Slight metallic after-taste, maybe result of the old-school grain smoking? Nice lingering roastyness (is that a word?) and alcohol warmth. Overall nice beer, the metallic taste is odd but I’ve gotten used to it and find this a very enjoyable beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 jfb (1438) - GERMANY - JUN 29, 2010
(bottle) pours a pitch black colour with a slight ruby tinge and a quickly-diminishing light brown head. aroma of dark fruits, most noticeably cherries, some toasted malts and alcohol, with some light notes of char. flavour is a tad musty in the beginning, with lots of toasted malts later on and some surprising notes of banana over a long-lasting roasted-bitter finish. strong-bodied, not too sweet, with smooth carbonation.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jb (1540) - Rochester, New York, USA - JUN 27, 2010
Cola colored, a dark brown with minimal head. Very sweet chocolaty nose, roasted nutty palate, also very sweet. Very rich, good, at times seemed a bit thin though.
