3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 delnoche (352) - GERMANY - APR 8, 2010
50cl bottle poured into a pint glass. Dark brown with ample creamy tan head. Beautiful. Aroma is sweet malt, lightly toasty, slight coffee. Flavor is a bit like burnt toast. Finish is quite bitter with a bit of alcohol burn at the end. Full bodied, highly carbonated. Not a bad brew. This was my first Baltic porter and it was a bit different than I expected. About the only similarity to the English variety is the color.

This porter has a dark-brown, almost black color and rich brownish-white foam that stays for a while. Tastes very spicy and malty and one can clearly notice the alcohol beyond the flavor. If compared to one or another porter from Finland it’s clearly more spicy and so far the best porter I know.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 nsquishee (341) - Richfield, Minnesota, USA - APR 2, 2010
Dark and zesty malts. Chocolate, black licorice, unidentified sweetness...all things that come to my mind. This beer barely hides the 9.5%...not sure if I like that or not. It’s very filling, so good thing it does have that extra ABV. Not quite my thing, but I can respect the concept of loving this beer.

Bottle. Color: black with brown head. Aroma: malty aroma mixed with coffee and prunes. Taste: caramel, with raisins and long coffee finish. Good porter.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 manuchampions (1154) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 22, 2010
Bottle from LCBO (old rate). Bottle. Black with slight red tint, minimal tan head. Strong aroma, but difficult to pinpoint what exactly it smells like, unusual to say the least. Malt, soy sauce, cherries. Intense sweetness yet a bitter and dry finish, featuring alcohol quite prominently, medium body. This beer falls into the unique category of being a beer that I recognize as being good, but don’t care to ever drink again, and I think the overall rating will reflect that.

Poured a clear dark, almost opaque mahogheny brown with a tall creamy mocha head. There were highlights of reddish/orange showing through the edges of the glass. There was a nice aroma of chocolate and a bit of a nutty scent and a good malt sweetness too. The initial taste was smooth with the flavor of milk chocolate as the flavor built a nice bit of a hops bite emerged and the chocolate flavor changed to more of a dark chocolate flavor. The nice bitterness/dark chocolate flavors remained into the finish and mellowed out over a long time. This is an excellent Porter. The best I’ve had so far.

Try pronoucing this beer after 10 of these . Fantastic dark malt, creamy complexity . Big arse beige top above evil abyss base. How is it that their "Pilsener" ,Zywiec Lager is a pretty lame drink, whilist this is damn charaismatic ?. You can get this beer in any good Polish commuinity stores. I know that sounds like an oxymoron.

Draught at a basement pub in the old town, Krakow. Decent roasted malt aroma. Sweet, but with good hops and roasted bitterness. Strong tasting. Ok, but just a little bit artificial tasting. The tap version was decent, although not I don’t quite get the huge praise for this. The bottled was a step down, tasting much too sweet. A nice change from the pale lagers in Poland, though.
