3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 muffel (111) - Lower Saxony, GERMANY - MAR 17, 2010
Bottle 500ml. Pours a dark brown (almost black) color with a thick fluffy brown head. Soft carbonation. Strong malty aroma of roasted coffee, burnt caramel, dark chocolate and some hops that lingers on the palate for quite a while. Some nice dry and bitter finish. Overall very well-balanced. Somewhat similar to the Baltika Porter.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jcr (1624) - Jasper, Indiana, USA - MAR 11, 2010
330 ml. Clear, deep brown body with a frothy, tan head, mostly lasting. Big, malty aroma of caramel, cookie, dark chocolate, tasted grain, roast. Hints of herbs, grass and dough. A light hint of prune. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet, moderately acidic and moderately bitter. Medium body, oily/creamy texture and moderate to lively carbonation. This beer smells like a nice English ESB with its initial predominance of caramel. The caramel flavor is quickly overrun by bitterness and some peppery alcohol. A very sweet, but far from cloying, porter. Nice and dry in the finish. Lasting bitterness.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Drake (4803) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - MAR 1, 2010
500 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a very dark brown color with a medium creamy brown head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, banana, caramel, chocolate and faint cola and smoke. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, faint fruit notes. Smooth, creamy, medium bodied. I love these tasty baltic porters for less than $3 a piece.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 mkel07 (1556) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - FEB 27, 2010
330ml bottle. Looks great with a thick fluffy latte coloured foam crown. Deep black colour with awonderful aromas of dark chocolate, coffee and burnt toffee. Strong flavours that mirror the aroma, flavours dance across the tongue and penetrate all corners of the mouth. Robust and mighty.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Elwood (1834) - Between a rock and a hard place, Virginia, USA - FEB 27, 2010
Serving: 500 ml. bottle from Beer Run.
It pours a very dark brown, almost black. The head is a good size, creamy, and light tan. The nose is roasty with a good dose of nuts thrown in. The flavor is very distinguished with notes of caramel, toffee, a slight metallic twang, and a good bit of malt sweetness. The relatively high alcohol content was undetectable. The mouthfeel was medium-rich with medium carbonation a relatively long toffee and fruity finish. Defintely a decent brew and worth giving a try.

Alcohol is well masked.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ivan9856 (173) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - FEB 22, 2010
The 500 ml bottle fills a glass with a beautiful dense dark brown beer with a generous rocky tan head that left good lacing. The aroma is first-rate and faithful to the style: chocolate, roasted malt and a healthy dose of aroma hops. There’s some alcohol peeking through as the beer warms to room temperature, too, owing to the high 9.5% ABV. Palate entry is robust, and full-bodied, with a notable sweetness upfront, the hinted chocolate and malt flavors, with a trace of dried dark fruits. The finish balances the sweetness, and is long and dry with an appropriate hop and alcohol balance. A very good beer. Dobre!
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 virtuosovii (103) - California, USA - FEB 8, 2010
Not bad. Tastes similar to the Baltika 6 porter (If you’ve had that). The aroma is great. Smells like chocolate, raisins, and roasted malts. The flavor is the chocolatey and sweet with notes of hops and fruits. Borderline metallic taste. Very soft carbonation. Lasting dark chocolate finish. Honestly it’s not the greatest thing ever but for 2 bucks and 9.5% ABV you can’t go wrong.
