3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 tjthresh (1840) - Greenfield, Indiana, USA - SEP 27, 2007
Bottle from my SS Summer 07.
Pour dark brown with some ruby highlights. A nice light brown head on top with a bit of lace.
Munich malts are apparent in the nose. Some chocolate, raisins, and a whiff of alcohol. Some noble hop character.
Very chocolatey, raisin, smoke, and really bitter, with clean lager like character. A bit oxidized
Medium body with plenty of carbonation, and a dry finish.
Solid, but not a fave of the style.
4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 zywiecporter (10) - Flintstone, Maryland, USA - SEP 23, 2007
This beer is the class of the Baltic Porter world. In a word - excellence. A delicious black beauty, Zywiec Porter delivers a rich, complex taste that blends hints of chocolate, coffee, raspberries, licorice, and a wickedly bitter aftertaste that pits man v. beer. Beer geeks, rise up, and heed this beer’s call! An endless love affair awaits with this powerful black stallion.

Pours a basically opaque black with a tan head. Nose is distinct with chocolate. I like! Flavor is just as good. Mature and robust with a smooth and not too harsh profile. Chocolate and mature malt tomes. Feel is thick with carbonation and smooth with ingredients. Extremely drinkable. After sampling several porters from the region over the past few weeks, this is by far one of the top ones...if not THE top one. Very worth trying,
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 ElGaucho56 (394) - USA - SEP 16, 2007
Pours a near black with tan, diminishing head. Aroma of roasted malts, strong estery fruits including blueberry and banana; hops come on strong on the palate: grassy and intensely bitter, finishing with a nice pop. Alcohol is present, particularly in the finish. Interesting take on the style, perhaps a little unbalanced, but certainly admirable.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 ecbeerguy (86) - East Chicago, Indiana, USA - SEP 12, 2007
From a bottle, with a pull date several months in the future. A nice head formed from the pour, although it dissipated qickly. The aroma has caramel, raisins, coffee, and chocolate. A very smooth beer, with a hint of alcohol that’s also present in the aroma.
3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ChetLemmons (87) - orlando, Florida, USA - SEP 11, 2007
very dark, nice brown head. nice chocolatey/amaretto smell, with a hint of soy sauce. goes in smooth but kinda hits a funny spot at the top of the throat before it goes down, but then goes down smooth. roasted coffee bean and chocolate in taste, which compliment each other very well, with a somewhat metaliic-y after taste, which sours the tasting enjoyment of this experience. truth be told, the aftertaste ruined this beer for me.
