3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ChetLemmons (87) - orlando, Florida, USA - SEP 11, 2007
very dark, nice brown head. nice chocolatey/amaretto smell, with a hint of soy sauce. goes in smooth but kinda hits a funny spot at the top of the throat before it goes down, but then goes down smooth. roasted coffee bean and chocolate in taste, which compliment each other very well, with a somewhat metaliic-y after taste, which sours the tasting enjoyment of this experience. truth be told, the aftertaste ruined this beer for me.

Pours light brown from the bottle and appear very dark brown in the glass. Light aromatics. Brown malt, caramel, light chocolate and espresso, banana peel arrive on the front palate, with a lovely backround of ripe sugar glazed fruits. Flavor is truly astoudingly complex, clearly a great recipe, yet I can’t say I’d want to drink it again. The beer tastes too dead.

500 ml bottle in pint glass. Black with flat light brown head. Roasted coffee aroma with slight lager graininess. Roasted coffee and chocolate flavors with lager smoothness and sweetness and bitter aftertaste. Pretty good tasting. Medium full bodied, medium carbo. Well-disguised alchohol. I prefer the fruitiness and rawness of an imperial stout.

Poured a clear deep ruby color with a small tan head. The aroma was malty and chocolatey with mild notes of roast and fruit. Not too sweet. The flavor was a mix of fruitt roasted malt and chocolate. Some mild alcohol taste and nice warmth. Medium bodied.

BOTTLE at Theresa’s Polish Restaurant, Brooklyn. The waiter said "they say it’s strong but I don’t drink beer" (and I said, "really!")
Whoa - what a memorable find this one turned out to be. Stout-like character with dark chocolate and licorice notes. Almost opaque with velvety mouthfeel and detectable alcohol that made it almost liqueur-like.
BUY AGAIN: Yes, will seek it out - to drink one huge 9.5% alcohol bottle at a time.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 sneezey (111) - Hackettstown, New Jersey, USA - SEP 2, 2007
Fantastic! Thicker than most porters, somewhere between a stout and a porter. Very nice combination of heavy toasted malt aroma and taste without too week a mouth feel to go with it. A touch on the sweet side at the finish, but a touch of bitter without too much of either. Nicely balanced - even though a bit of the alcohol comes through. (but at 9.5% what did you expect??)
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 larsga (4435) - Oslo, NORWAY - SEP 2, 2007
Medium coarseish brown head. Deep dark red body, barely translucent, with carbonation. Syrupy roasty licorice and paper aroma. Deep sharpish metallic papery licorice taste, kind of syrupy. Clean mouthfeel, some alcohol heat. Chocolatey notes. Dry, papery licorice aftertaste. Quite nice. A bit mild, even when warm, but good. Had it later on draft, which was better. (0.33l bottle from a grocery store in Krakow.)
