4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 sinte (171) - udine, ITALY - JUL 10, 2007
Bottle 0.33L.
Dark brown (almost black) body with an average, frothy, brown head, mostly diminishing with a fair lacing.
Moderate-to-heavy malty aroma (toasted, nuts, dark bitter chocolate and dark coffee) with a light hoppy character. Notes of raisins, toffee and light-to-moderate alcohol.
Flavour is moderate sweet and moderate-to-heavy bitter; the long-lasting finish is heavy bitter with a light sweet note.
Medium body with an oily-creamy texture; flat carbonation; light alcoholic and metallic feelings in the finish.
A complex beer; very satisfactory; surprisingly, the alcoholic note is quite moderate.

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2008 Wow. Brown, nearly black pour, with a squatty brown head that quickly dissipates. Rich aroma of coffee, roasted malt, licorice, and alcohol. Dense, roasted malt up front with cocoa and cognac flavors. Moves into cream, coffee and anise, which is swept up with an alcohol warmer.

0.5 l bottle. Pours nearly opaque reddish brown with dark beige with lacing. Aroma of cherries, coffee, roasted malt. Chewy, oily palate. Flavors are extremely prominent alcohol, nuttiness, some spirit/vodka flavors and a bit of yeast flavors. Aftertaste is bitterness and coffee. Truly excellent.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 thewolf (8245) - Kolding, DENMARK - JUN 28, 2007
Bottle. [thank you faroeviking]. Pours reddish black with a small, slightly lacing brown head. Aroma is sweet and malty, chocolate, some cinnamon. Generally quite low carbonation. Very full mouthfeel with slightly prickly bubbles. Flavour begins of sweet and malty. Then a heavy presence of alcohol along with roasted malts, dark chocolate and a touch of mocha-dark coffee. Flavour lingers a long time after swallowing, carried by the heavy (though not too powerful) alcohol presence.

nice dark pour...sweet malty aroma with molasses and cedar. alcohol burns the nose. flavor is mostly licorice and dark molasses with some vinous dried figs. a nice bitter finish is followed by a mild coffee aftertaste. initially, the alcohol helps to cut through the sweet creaminess. but as i dive deeper into the glass, it becomes a nuisance as it engulfs my face.
3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 asheft (2032) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 11, 2007
[bottle]
Sort of a bock aroma--potent grainy malt with some alcohol and not so fruity/ale-y. A touch of burnt, dark malt. Opaque black with some clarity at the edges and a nice, clingy, kakhi cover. A bit burnt-imperial stout flavoured crossed with a German bock. Considerable sweetness at the end with a good helping of noble hops that seem to impart a salty feel. Notes of green apple, caramel, coffee, mocha. Medium body, a little warming, moderate carbonation. There is a nice balance between the dark malt and the hops bitterness. Hoppy burpy bitter finish.
