COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Zywiec Porter, pronounced "je-vi-ets", is a dark, strong beer brewed according to the traditional recipe from 1881, with the Munich malt and special malts for caramel and color plus the highest quality aromatic hops. Everything together creates a unique combination of taste. Production of this Porter was moved to Bracki Bowar in 2004 .

Bottle. Black with beige head. Licorice aroma with elements of chocolate. Flavour of toasted malts with a burnt bitterness to it. Also some coffee notes and a little sweet licorice. Surprisingly low rating compared to my memory of this beer. Maybe it was due to a rather large intake of alcohol at the time of the rating, but it still was somewhat dissapointing. Have to re-rate this again.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2008 500ml bottle gift from Tranquility - Thanks, thanks, thanks! Jet black, espresso head. Aroma heavy and sweet - a berry, perhaps raspberry or strawberry, but in no way light, hints of mocha coffee. Hugely roasted malty taste - burnt on the tongue, but also fairly sweet, a wicked treacly combination, with a tempting tang of both coffee and ginger. Lovely long burnt finish. For something which had the potential to be so brutal this is very sophisticated with no annoying sharp peaks at all. Definitely succulent. And the 9.5% is completely hidden - marvelous! This does compete with Koff porter - wow! Rerate of 330ml bottle (6-5-7-3-13=3.4) also shared by Tranquility - thanks! Sticky sweet in all aspects, but with enough burnt malt to make that forgivable. Alcohol breaks through, which detracts slightly from the taste, this would be fantastic, and could possibly compete with Koff Porter, if it was 7%

Dark brown with a small off white head. Slight chocolatey smell. Some yeasty aromas. The flavor is espresso and chocolate. Really light mouthfeel.

Bottle: Rich dark brown pour with a large, creamy tan head. Lacing is very thick sheeting. Nose is dark fruits, toasted malt, and hints of chocolate. The taste is full of roasted malt, coffee, dark fruits, and light chocolate. Very good. Thanks to BuckDich for sharing this treat.

The aroma is interesting with toasted malt, chocolate, and rubber. The appearance is dark brown with an average sized tan head. The flavor is like the aroma but very sweet and bitter. The sweet is very artificial and the bitter is very astringent. There is a little bit of black strap molasses but it just adds to the unpleasantness of this beer. The palate is smooth and thick. Another beer that I would not recommend.

Pours to a coal black with good tan head that lingers through most of the glass and leaves lacing from top to bottom. A very unique arona, in that it was a pleasant mixture of chocolate, coffe, licorice and alcohol. The good nice thick body was slightly carbonated, and the mouthfeel somewaht tingly. Flavor was mostly the chocolate-coffe to begin with, and as the beer warmed, the 9.5% alcohol became more noticeable, though never overwhelming. Likewise, the finish, which was at first a little watery and short, became long and pleasant as the beer warmed at mid-glass. This beer was a pleasant surprise and most enjoyable.
