4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a deep caramel brown beneath a huge, creamy, long-lasting mocha head. Bittersweet and milk chocolate aroma with a punch of dark fruit, a thin layer of cake dough and a whiff of ABV. There is an odd burnt/metallic tinge to the flavor (which I blame on Continental hopping), but the base is semi-sweet chocolate syrup with coffee roasts and a splash of spiced rum. Full-bodied, almost sticky... wholly satisfying on a chill January evening. I remember this being a top-rated Baltic Porter about 5 years ago, and it being very difficult to find at the time. I recently ran across a goodly amount of bottles at several local bottle shops, so Iím guessing production and exports have stepped up a notch. ~~~~~~~~~ Pint bottle from Bridgeview Liquors, Bridgeview, IL

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Couldnít be more excited to review my first Baltic Porter, and this Polish beauty was a hell of a way to start into the style. Appearance seduced me right away. Almost-black body, creamy head, sticky lacing. Smell is huge and assertive. Cocoa, coffee, syrupy fruit aromas, and a whole lotta booze. Flavor follows the nose. Rich, spicy cocoa at the fore; fresh, strong coffee after that; and boozy fruit finishing things off with prune, plum, currant, and dry sherry. This Porter is the perfect match for a fine cheese and a cold evening. Until now, this was a beer that Iíve seen before but knew little about it. Glad I know about it, now!

O- Wow. This beer has balls. Very strong licorice and mocha flavors finished with a sharp alcohol bite. Pretty good and definitely a winter warmer kind of beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml. bottle, poured into a schooner. Thick tan head on a black body, leaving lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, roasted grain, chocolate, cherry, plum, slight nuts, brown sugar, booze. Well balanced flavor with a creamy, chocolatey sweetness of the malts offset by noble hop bitterness. This is a well crafted brew, and was a good deal at $3 a bottle on sale at BevMo. Packs a punch with 9.5% abv. Itís an imperial porter!

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A lot of roasty aromas, some cereal, coffee and chocolate scents.
Appearance is black. 100% opaque. Head fades out really fast.
At the beginning thereís a light sweetness and after that the bitterness kicks in. Really nice and quite strong bitterness.
Itís medium carbonated. The body is medium too. Oily texture.
Probably the best beer with "Żywiec" word on the label.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from a Gdansk off licence. Pours black with a quickly fading tan head. Starts quite sweet with good roast flavours, caramel and quite a lot of spiciness. Thereís lingering treacle and coffee in the bitter finish with some nice alcohol warmth. Perhaps a little thin bodied and over carbonated, but otherwise very good beer.
