This is a nice, smooth, but very flavourful Polish porter. It is black red with a fairly loarge, very long-lasting light brown head leaving very nice lace. The aroma is chocolatye, coffee, wine, prunes, and brown sugar. The taste is rich, with a lot of strong, complex flavours, but it is very smooth and blends very niely. It has a rich prune-chocolate-wine-burnt sugar character with lements of licorice, black pepper, and coffee. It’s smooth and a little oily but less than one might expect for this richness. It has a warmth to it, but the high alcohol is not notcieable at all except in the silky body and warm sweetness.

500ml bottle to glass. Pours deep red/brown/pepsi/black. Aroma of dark fruit, malt, heaven and pixy dust with a hint of tears from God Himself. Taste is initially sweet, rounded off by a roasted dark chocolate/caramel/blackberry/smokey/cherry/crazy finish. Alcohol is present, which in this case, is a good thing. It helps magnify the many virtues of this amazing beer. It drinks equally well on a hot July night or in the dead of winter. Possibly the perfect porter. Oh yeah, AND it f*cks you up fast! Best bang for your buck in the world! Thanks Poland!!

Zapach z butelki: Kawa zbożowa z czekoladą, skórka ciemnego chleba, suszone śliwki. Piana: Brązowa drobnoziarnista, dość nietrwała. Redukuje się do kożuszka. Oblepia szkło. Kolor: Ciemnobrązowe, klarowne z jasnobrązowymi refleksami. Zapach: Kawa zbożowa z likierem, pralinkami, truflami. Za nią gorzka czekolada z rodzynkami. Smak: Wysoka paloność, kawowość. Spora podbudowa w postaci głębokiej słodyczy przełamanej przez likierowość i kwaśność słodów palonych. Tekstura: Gęste i ciężkie, wykleja podniebienie palonością. Nasycenie: Średnio-niskie. Goryczka: Średnio-wysoka, nieco agresywna i gryząca.

Couldn’t be more excited to review my first Baltic Porter, and this Polish beauty was a hell of a way to start into the style. Appearance seduced me right away. Almost-black body, creamy head, sticky lacing. Smell is huge and assertive. Cocoa, coffee, syrupy fruit aromas, and a whole lotta booze. Flavor follows the nose. Rich, spicy cocoa at the fore; fresh, strong coffee after that; and boozy fruit finishing things off with prune, plum, currant, and dry sherry. This Porter is the perfect match for a fine cheese and a cold evening. Until now, this was a beer that I’ve seen before but knew little about it. Glad I know about it, now!

A mild sweet raisin and dried fruit aroma with mild roast malt. Dark brown, almost black, thin white head. Sweet raisin very balanced with malt bitterness taste and some charcoal. Palate is filling and fizzy. Overall, wow! This was a very good Baltic porter!

Another quality offering from my friend Cantabrian. He’s a man whose opinion of Baltic Porter should be held in high esteem. It’s a style he loves and can talk about at length, holding the listener’s interest all the while. This one is as dark as can be with ruby tones in the dimple of the glass and a covering of caramel coloured head. As the crown came off there was a pungent plummy aroma that suggested that this beer was always going to be remarkable. A more interrogative sniff reveals charcoal, motor oil, cinnamon, dark cocoa, birch bark, carob (I hate carob), dark rum and dusty chocolate. No sooner had I written that this easily achieved full marks for aroma, than I caught a whiff of brine as well. It is slick and oily on the tongue and then there is a prickly carbonation followed by a rush of all those mature dark flavours clamouring for attention. When they are gently called to order they become sweet, juicy and amenable - as if a Welsh male choir has been called to order and gently brought to song. And what a song. Interesting, compulsive and suggestive flavours in this ale. It finishes with a fluffy chocolate and gentle saltiness that is wonderfully edifying. My deep thanks to Cantabrian... a lingering taste of radiation though? Sunken Soviet submarines? You weird bastard.

Dobry porter.
