UPDATED: MAR 4, 2012 Smell is extremely faint, maybe some flowery malt. Color is dark, with no real color other than black. Taste is quite bitter and a little abrasive, maybe some dark chocolate. A little overrated.

This pours red-brown, but is opaque black in the glass. This porter has a great head on it’s shoulders with pretty decent lacing. Roasted malts, notes of honey, hay, and some distant chocolate sum up the nose on this one. Deep espresso and roasted malts are subdued by extremely subtle hops, some sweetness, and a heavy alcohol finish. You can taste every bit of that 9.5% ABV for sure! My inner "beer snob" comdemns this. But, my manliness is inflated. I feel like this is putting hair on my chest, and I should be accompanied by some vikings or something. There’s a lingering espresso-malt thing happening in my mouth that I really can’t complain about. There’s a medium amount of carbonation (medium to high for a porter), with medium weight. If not for the heavy alcohol finish, I’d say the tongue weight makes this more drinkable than most fine porters. Overall, this is a porter for men that want to drink like manly men. It isn’t notably complex, and I wouldn’t consider it to be among the best I’ve tasted. As I often say about beers in this category, (out of respect for beers in ANY category): I "wouldn’t kick this one out of bed". It’s tasty, cheap, and unassuming. Although, I prefer sophisticated, intelligent, beautiful women- I can enjoy the "tasty-cheap-unassuming" type on occasion. If there are better porters on tap or in the store- by all means: buy them. However, if you’re on a budget, and nothing else is up your alley- do not be ashamed to give Zywiec Porter a try.

Zywiec Porter is decent porter that goes well with Polish food. Pours very dark black with a tan head. Not much aroma. Taste is very chocolatey - not much of the other notes you would expect in a porter. Clean but chocolatey aftertaste. Higher alcohol is hardly noticeable (until you finish.) Zywiec Porter is a hardy beer to go with hardy food.

500mL bottle. Black color, translucent, medium head fades down to a small collar. Decent adhesion. Nice malty aroma, smells the part, slightly alcoholic. Really nice taste, alcohol is present, it lingers well and it sufficiently malty with enough complexity to keep you guessing. Toffee and burnt notes are present, but not overpowering. Slightly viscous. Great beer.

Poured a dense black with a small off white head. Aroma of very roasted caramel malt and coffee grinds. Medium body, flavour of roast malt and dark alcohol soaked berry fruit, with a metallic, slightly phenolic undertone. Dry, bitter end.

Great, dark porter - really enjoyable. Coffee dominates the taste, which also contains great levels of alcohol and bitterness, and the aroma is more dominated by darker fruits and malts.

Aroma-faint barley and hops. Maybe beer is too cold, but aromas are faint. Dark black color, medium white head. Lasting with large bubbles. Taste us heavy toasted barley. Rye/ pumperknickel. Smooth sipping with a lot of flavor. Late sourness that is not unpleasant. Mouthfeel- low carbonation. Thin smooth feel. Would be great with a hearty beef stew with a lit of carrots, potatoes, dill and rosemary. This beer always satisfies....na zdorovie.

Aroma is caramel, malts and mild vinous/dark fruit. The flavor is dryish/earthy malts, caramel, sweetish malts and mix of acidity and hops in the finish.

Brown pour, black in the glass. Tan head settles to an 1/8th inch ring of foam that leaves thick lacing. The aroma is roast coffee, chocolate, dark fruit, and some metallic lager yeast. The flavor is sweet at first, with some chocolate and Munich malt, then adds some date-like flavors, dries out, and finishes with roast that lingers in the back of the throat. Light to medium bodied with only a faint hint of alcohol. Still don’t believe this is 9.5%.
