Founded in 1978. After a number of changes of ownership, restructurings and insolvencies, brewing ceased in 2004. A new company was formed to market beers under the Smiles name, which were subsequently brewed at Highgate. In 2010 Highgate was taken by HWBC Limited, which is also understood to have acquired the Smiles brands at that time. Smiles beers continue to be brewed at Highgate, which was renamed Davenports in 2012.
